My installation instructions for the PIAA Pro90's are pretty straightforward except for one thing that has me stumped - it says:

"connect this wire to the positive terminal of the automobile's original position light harness"

"this wire" is the primary hot (middle) lead to the on-off-on switch, which controls the dual element (driving/fog) lights.

Does anyone know exactly what that "positive terminal of the original position light harness" refers to?? I cheated when I put these on another pickup and just hooked into an ignition-switched hot lead, but I want to do it right this time, so the switch is energized (and, more importantly,
DE-energized) by the headlight control, not the ignition.

Thanks, I appreciate any info that might help. PIAA is a little shy on their
vehicle-specific technical assistance.

Rob,
Are they the PIAA Platinums #19604? If so, mine didn't have the same instructions as yurs. Mine was just a swapout - but with some scraped nuckles. I hope I got the bulbs installed without touching the lens. Anxious to hear if you perceve a noticeable difference. I will give that they are a somewhat whiter, but they sure don't produce twice the brightness that PIAA claims in their ads.

Tommy Too Stock or TTS OF KISS... I had the opportunity to have my truck following me last night with the PIAA replacements on at low beam... MUCH MORE intense then stock. I was shuttling around a few RAMS last night and there is a BIG difference. Are you sure you didn't get the bulbs mixed up and put yer STOCK TOO STOCK bulbs back in due to your KISS club loyalties? LOL You may have gone and brainwashed yourself and don't even know it.

Seriously though... the lights that Rob is describing are add on lights...completely seperate from the bulbs... NON-STOCK TOO.

Whoa, Tom what a pleasant surprise - didn't expect you to acknowledge a non-OEM post - have to admit the "Tommy-Too-Stock" deal is a hoot -

Gee, I sure hope it doesn't stick... .

Scott's right, these are the driving/fog combo lights. I put the 19604's in a couple of days ago and I agree with you that the difference isn't blinding. However they're MUCH whiter, and in our country - where there is very little (if any) nighttime traffic - the whiteness of the light significantly reduces eye fatigue. At least for me.

I never actually figured out what PIAA was trying to say either. I also don't understand certain state laws that insist the aftermarket lights have to go off when your bright lights go on. So I ignored everybody and did the following:

1. Using a test light, find the wire that's hot when the parking lights are on, but not when they're off. Use this as your hot wire and you'll be able to use either the fogs or the driving lights whenever the truck lights are on.

2. Get the dual remote switch from PIAA. You can mount the switch on your steering wheel and access the PIAA lights as easily as your bright lights. You won't have to feel for a toggle switch somewhere and other drivers will appreciate not seeing the PIAA driving lights. Especially since they won't be able to see anything else for about 1/2 mile.....

3. No matter what bulbs you've used to replace your stock headlamps, the PIAA Pro 90s will make your regular headlights seem non-existent. You'll see this the first time you turn the Pro 90s off.

4. Make sure you keep the drain holes mounted down. If you mount them up, the lamps will fill with water and burn out the bulbs. Not good!

Enjoy these lights and wait for the day when somebody tells you your stock lights are too bright..... then show them the PIAAs!

Mike -

Thank you - I should have figured out the parking light approach but the old brain cramped up on me trying to make it more complicated than it was. I do have the remote switch and it's all hooked/adapted into the original PIAA harness so I'm ready to go in that respect.

I don't want my auxiliary lights limited to "brights off only" either, so this will work great.

Again Thanks -

You know, TTS, if anyone at BD fully understands your sentiments regarding the aftermarket business they just might turn you away at Abbotsford...

At the very least you'll pay a premium for your "KISS ME" sign-up booth... or is it just KISS... I forget... .

I love it! Tommy Too Stock.

Mike, how in the heck did you get those PIAA 90 Pro's in your bumper cutouts???? Everyone else I've seen with them has had the manual transmission. Even PIAA told me they wouldn't fit (with an auto. trans. ). Please describe the mounting portion of your installation. If it is too involved, please e-mail me directly. I recently purchased PIAA's Dual Sport 900 series lights (Ion Crystal fog/ Super White driving) because I was not aware you could fit the 90 Pros into the cutout areas. As I haven't mounted the PIAA Dual Sports yet, I would like to get your input on the mounting portion of the 90 Pro installation, possibly altering my course of action. Also, do the lenses of the 90 Pros protrude beyond the bumper? One more question for you Mike; I was also considering the PIAA (dual) wireless remote switch, although I was unable to find a suitable mounting location on my '98 steering wheel. Where did you mount yours? The switch I got in the Dual Sport kit is really trick, not like the cheap, chrome, toggle switches they used to give out. However, if the wireless remote switch will mount on the steering wheel in a trick location, I may go that route. Thanks in advance, John

PS: Hang in there Tommy (Too Stock)

John,

No miracles here. The PIAA Pro 90s are mounted on my aftermarket grill guard. There's a photo on my website at: http://www.geocities.com/baja/cliffs/2182/dodge.html

As for the remote switch, it attaches with an adhesive strip and I have it mounted on the upper left spoke so I can activate it with my thumb.

Mike,
Did someone say that was a wireless remote switch you mounted on your steering wheel?

Yes Terry, PIAA part# 30032 - this is for a dual element light set, if I remember correctly the part# for a single element set is 30031 - but don't hold me to that.

Price from my local auto parts store was $90. 00 + inbound UPS.

Took the liberty of answering for Mike as I have the same set he does.

Looking at your signature you have the makings of Tommy Too Stock's worst nightmare, stay with it !!!!!

Thanks for the info. Who sells PIAA anyway.

TTS will come around slowly. You know it and I know it. It has already started. Tires here, a light bulb there. Only a matter of time.

Terry -

I would think any auto parts/accessories store near you would have access to PIAA products.

I roamed around on the net for awhile and the cheapest price I could find on the 30032 was $93. 00 + freight - so I trotted on down to the local NAPA store and offered them $90. 00 + freight, which worked out for both of us. Of course this is a very small town (pop. 650) so my relationship with this store might be different than someone in a larger place.

There were a couple of pretty good online sites, one I remember was autobulbdepot.com (where I got my PIAA Platinum Super Whites), and the other one escapes me right at the moment. If I remember it I'll edit this and give you that info.

Just did, it's autosupermart.com - I thought these were two of the easiest sites to navigate and the prices were competitive as well. But there are a thousand other sites that are probably just as good or better, so good luck.

Thanks for the info. Mike. After I posted yesterday I thought to myself that you might have the 90 Pros mounted to a grille guard. Looks good Mike! I guess I'll keep my PIAA Dual Sport 900s. John (newly appointed SVP of BOM... thanks Scott! I owe ya one. . eh)
