1998. 5 3500 24v quad cab dually 2WD 5-speed. 145k. Gooseneck hitch yada yada

2001 2500 HO 24v quad cab long bed 4x4 auto. 210k+ minor body damage.

I pull a trailer daily close to 10k, but feel naked without 4x4. Also have a off road rig that get towed often. Like the feel of towing with a dually but the 4x4 confidence. What seems to be a better deal. I own the dually currently with Edge juice att. , exh, and bhaf. All can be switched to the other. The interiors of both are comparable. My dash is cracked but seats are perfect his seats are ripped with no cracked dash. Yada yada.

Opinions please...

More mods will follow to either.

clutch(con fer) to mine is cheaper than complete ATS transmission for 01

The 01 will give you the confidence of the 4x4 but you will lose some mileage. The auto transmission will definitely need to be upgraded in order to do the pulling. My choice would be the 98. I have an'02 with auto and the second warranty was off so was the goose neck ball in the back and the trailer hitch. I wouldnt pull anything more than its own weight with the stock transmission !!#@$%! You will need to watch the 5th gear nut in the manual but I would say you would be better off. :)

Does the 98. 5 have a 53 block? I'd check that first... . very common that year. You will wish you had 4x4 the first time that you get it stuck. I wouldn't choose either, but thats just because I gotta have a stick shift 4x4 to do my line of work [excavating].

stick shift 4x4 are the top 2! whats the deal here, a trade? are you selling one and buying? if you are in the market for another truck i wouldnt settle on one of those. when was the last time you needed 4x4 and didnt have it?

i would take a stick no matter what. i dont tow heavy nor have i owned a dually but is a dually a must and your weight?
