Well they got the truck done about four this afternoon. The Sales person took me to the clean up pit at the back of the service department to inspect the truck. The first thing they did was to show me to two places in the paint, the run on the back of the bed and the trash in the paint near the sport emblem. They didn't know that I already knew about these places from having spent four hours at the body shop with the truck yesterday while they repaired the scuffed paint on the front end bumper cover. I cannot say enough about the honesty and the desire of the people at Smith Stokes Dodge in Reidsville NC to make the customers happy. I was wondering as I was walking back to the clean up area if they had noticed these two problem areas and if they were going to even mention them to me. Needless to say I was supprised when they showed them to me first thing and asked me if I wanted them to have the areas repaired or not. After watching the body shop repair the front bumper cover and what a bang up job they did, I would not hesitate to let them repair the two places if I wasn't concerned about the paint not matching later on down the road.
Once the truck was cleaned and polished the rest of the paint looked very good with the exception of some orange peel in a few places.
So on to the really scary part, the test drive and not really knowing what to expect from the six speed. My friends DEE performs flawless in his 2000 ETC. Would it be possible for me to be so lucky? I fired up the engine and oh what a sound. I have to admit the 24 valve sounds so much better to me idling than my 96 12er. while sitting there I ran through the gear pattern several times with no problems getting into any gear. I thought, this has to be a good sign. My father drove me to the dealership and went along with me on the twenty mile test drive. Before we left I had him to cross is fingers as this was the moment of truth and the fat lady was clearing her throat. I tried everything I could to get that DEE to grind or slip out of gear or do anything stupid. It was going to have none of that. It performed flawless. Needless to say at this point I was as happy as a pig in s_ _t. Upon returning to the dealership I looked at Bill the salesperson and said in a very happy tone: (Show me the papers). thirty minutes later I was on the road to meet my wife and all of our friends that also have Cummins powered trucks for dinner.
Because of the problems with the paint they made me a good deal on the 5 year 100,000 mile wrap around extended warrenty. Everyone that I have talked to that has had any dealings with this 5 star dealership has had nothing but good things to say about them.
I have currently loged about 95 miles on the truck today, so far. She is sitting in the driveway right now calling my name. I think I am going to have to go for another little ride before I pass out from all the excitement today.
Thanks for listening
