Well they got the truck done about four this afternoon. The Sales person took me to the clean up pit at the back of the service department to inspect the truck. The first thing they did was to show me to two places in the paint, the run on the back of the bed and the trash in the paint near the sport emblem. They didn't know that I already knew about these places from having spent four hours at the body shop with the truck yesterday while they repaired the scuffed paint on the front end bumper cover. I cannot say enough about the honesty and the desire of the people at Smith Stokes Dodge in Reidsville NC to make the customers happy. I was wondering as I was walking back to the clean up area if they had noticed these two problem areas and if they were going to even mention them to me. Needless to say I was supprised when they showed them to me first thing and asked me if I wanted them to have the areas repaired or not. After watching the body shop repair the front bumper cover and what a bang up job they did, I would not hesitate to let them repair the two places if I wasn't concerned about the paint not matching later on down the road.

Once the truck was cleaned and polished the rest of the paint looked very good with the exception of some orange peel in a few places.

So on to the really scary part, the test drive and not really knowing what to expect from the six speed. My friends DEE performs flawless in his 2000 ETC. Would it be possible for me to be so lucky? I fired up the engine and oh what a sound. I have to admit the 24 valve sounds so much better to me idling than my 96 12er. while sitting there I ran through the gear pattern several times with no problems getting into any gear. I thought, this has to be a good sign. My father drove me to the dealership and went along with me on the twenty mile test drive. Before we left I had him to cross is fingers as this was the moment of truth and the fat lady was clearing her throat. I tried everything I could to get that DEE to grind or slip out of gear or do anything stupid. It was going to have none of that. It performed flawless. Needless to say at this point I was as happy as a pig in s_ _t. Upon returning to the dealership I looked at Bill the salesperson and said in a very happy tone: (Show me the papers). thirty minutes later I was on the road to meet my wife and all of our friends that also have Cummins powered trucks for dinner.

Because of the problems with the paint they made me a good deal on the 5 year 100,000 mile wrap around extended warrenty. Everyone that I have talked to that has had any dealings with this 5 star dealership has had nothing but good things to say about them.

I have currently loged about 95 miles on the truck today, so far. She is sitting in the driveway right now calling my name. I think I am going to have to go for another little ride before I pass out from all the excitement today.

Thanks for listening

HeliPilot, glad to hear everything was to your satisfaction and you got her home. One image I will always remember as a boy. My father paid cash for a new Lincoln mark IV and on the first night he had it home I head the stereo blaring. I went outside (this is around 11:00)and he was sitting in the seat with a cigar and a drink enjoying the moment. He said to me "I have always wanted a car like this and now I have it!"
And now you have yours! Enjoy

Hemipilot, Sound like you have a good dealership. good to hear they treated you right. have fun showing off the new rig.

Propose to the dealer now son, don't let her get away marry it! #ad
Good luck and there is nothing like stepping into it after the plate is on and you hit the key... ... Ahhhhh.

Just returned home. Odometer now reads 135 miles. There is nothing quite like a late night drive with that Cummins purring to prepare one for a good nites sleep.

It has been raining here all day so I have had to be alittle carefull with the fuel pedel. This thing is very impressive in forth and fifth gear. I can easily see how the guys with injectors and boxes in these ETH engines can experience serious traction problems. I am going to get my buddy with the 2000 ETC and the DEE with the 275 injectors and line them up going down the Highway and see how they compare. I have driven his truck alot, but I don't remember it getting up and moving like this thing does.

Thanks for the nice comments and the ears to bend. My other half is probably like alot of the wifes out there in that she just doesn't get it. Its just transportation to her, plain and simple. When I try to explain the emotion I feel when listening to the Cummins running or my 2000 ETC buddys 33 Ford hot rod running with a Parcell Brothers built 502 cubic inch racing engine with a Whipple super Charger and King Demon carb, over 20 grand in the engine, she just looks at me like I'm stupid or someting. She will say something like: You must be Stupid, Stupid, Stupid or Get a life). I don't really see any difference between this and their endless desire to go SHOPPING.

Sometimes when we are going on a trip in my 93 Mazda RX-7 Twin turbo I will just floor it in second and wind it out to about 8 grand, just to hear the turbos do alittle work and quite frankly for the rush and she will just look at me and say: Do you have any idea how much gas you just wasted? She can drive that car for an entire week on one tank of gas as a Realestate Sales Person. If I fill it up and drive it by lunch the next day it is sucking fumes. Owell, I try to educate her on the finer things in life, but I think that I am beating a dead horse.

Just remember that it was HER side that listened to the pretty talking snake and got us in all the trouble we are in today... ... ...

HeliPilot,

Glad to hear of your good fortune with the dealership. I have family who live down in Reidsville. If they'er ever in need of a new truck, I'll advise them to drop by your dealership.

All the best of luck with your new baby!!!

Sleep??? How could you do that with only 135 miles on her? Good luck sounds like you will enjoy it for many many happy miles!!!

Also sounds like you got yourself a good dealer! Stick with them hope they don't disappoint you. To many posts re: bad thiongs, dealer ineptitude, things going south etc. Good post enjoyed hearing about your new truck.

Wayne, even down here in J'ville we have heard that your dealership was top shelf. I'm glad to hear all went well. This dealer here is the same as yours, always ready to help with any problem. I'm on my fourth Cummins from them and would buy again from them in a heart beat.

Ain't the ETH/DEE a blast to drive?? #ad
I think the only difference between yours and mine is that I ordered the $;10's.

Enjoy your new truck!!!!!! Pete
