Pickup pump bypassers, anyone else tried this?

When I installed my bypass Carter pickup pump I added a hot switch so I could manually turn the pump on without the engine running. (Switched pwr... Key must be in the on position too. )

Now I can irritate people when they try to talk to me when I am parked! (As the pump is kinda loud when the motor isn't running. )

Well... thats not the real reason.

This comes in handy when its time to pressurize the fuel system after replaceing fuel filter and cleaning out it's lower housing. Usually takes less than a minute with pump on continously.

Naturally the truck is off when I change the fuel filter and empty the filter bowl. I used to have to turn the key to the on and off position several times then crank the engine and repeat procedure until truck fuel system pressurized and started.

Now, I actually have 2 switches on my truck one under the hood and one in the cab which are wired in series with each other. (For no real reason. ) Last night I changed my fuel filter and drained/cleaned the bowl. (Which is why I decided to write this thread. ) I installed the new filter but didn't thread the filter cap. I then turn the key to on (the pump runs for a couple seconds)and used the switch under hood to run the pump until the bowl is full then tighten the cap. Then I run the pump again until I seen good fuel pressure. (If you don't have a guage its rather audiable as well) Then turn the pump switch back off, hit the key and the truck starts right up. This is the best way I have found so far for fuel filter changes.

If I go with different injectors again this will come in handy for that as well.

I knew what you were doing. it sounds like a good idea. I've had the pusher on mine for about 23,000miles now. i just cycle the key to charge the system back up. while watching the test guage i put on the pump.



you did know you can bump-start it and make the lift pump run for 20 seconds right?
