. . . let me hear what ya'll think of this setup

I think it's great! Now I want to hear what you think about the ridee and handling, especially in the rough stuff.

What springs did you put in the back? Your setup kinda reminds me of the older GM pickups with coil springs all the way around.

it rides nice little stiffer because of the higher spring rate but even that has smoothed out. i used rough counrty sx8000 shocks all of which needed a little break in. handling is the same as the factory except for NO axel wrap, now it just hooks and goes. makes shiften smoother too i think.

the springs where just 3 inch i. d. ebach(sp?) 700 in. lbs. rate springs. built the spring cups and all the fab work was done by myself.

nothing less then 1/4 plate was used.

i havent wheeled it yet but the few bumps i did hit it took just fine.

nate that tubing is 11/2 o. d. with a 3/8 thick wall the threaded section is 1 1/4 for the joints.

I'm curious how it will do with a heavy load on the back without helper springs or bags. Though looks like your truck is more setup for off road use than towing heavy??

it should tow alright i dont know since i havent had the chance yet. i plan to put air bags on eventually. your right though its more meant for off road then towing.

I wish I had time to work on my truck more too. Enjoy it and be sure to experiment with shock valving too. It can make a big differance.

You might want to consider moving the shocks. Having them staggered may not be as efficient or smooth as having them run on the same plane as your springs.

Basically your springs are allowing the axle to move in one plane while your shocks are working in another. Therefore limiting your motion.

Just something to consider. I don't see it being a big project for you, since you did all the rest of the work already.

I've been interested in doing the same setup only not using springs in the rear but strictly air bags. Just like the Kelderman kit only without the $4k price tag.

Its not a bad job as long as you can weld and have a good eye.

Here's one of the trucks that I've helped build (and even re-build once).

These were taken at INDY before we were able to unload it and air it up. I'll try to find some more of the up close photos. But, my other computer crashed, so it may be a bit.

so everyone knows ive had a few local guys ask me if im making a kit out of this. and well i would like to if people are interested. the catch is i need a truck that can sit apart for a month or so while i work on fine tunning the kit. building templets and all that. if i could i would offer to do it on my dime but as im just a poor farm boy i cant. i know thats a real turn off. but who knows maybe someone one near my home town is willing to. i thought i would throw that out there.
