There are no holes drilled in my dash to mount this. I used the forward dash to firewall bolt at the base of the windshield to mount the rear of the unit. I used a piece of vinyl from the cross brace under the unit to mount the front of the unit. I used the same factory vinyl that is used on the center console lid and it's the same stuff I used to cover my as yet uncompleted center console. It doesn't move around at all, and doesn't obstruct my vision. The only problem is that I can't hear the speaker that well. The piece of vinly I used to mount the front pretty much seals off the bottom of the unit and doesn't let much clear sound out. I plan on mounting an external speaker under the dash in the next week or so.

BTW, I can also pull the CB out and disconnect it easily If I have parked the truck in a bad area. It just slides out of the mount.

Just another option for mounting your CB's.

I'd like some more info on this. I'm currently running a Galaxy 88 on a Michael Brolin mount between the seat and the gear shifter. This is a neat set up but I'd like the CB up where is could see it and away from so much dust and dirt.

Thanks,

Greg Davis

Looks good

Hi DMKelly. That looks pretty nice. Handy too. Did you make it out of wood and then cover it? How did you secure it or does it simply stay in place by weight and friction?

Good job.

It is made out of wood, and then covered with factory vinyl. I used a stair tread from Home Depot because it is a little thicker than standard 1x lumber. The top is 1/4" finished plywood.

To attach the rear to the bolt mentioned in the first post, I used a piece of steel stock about 1" wide and bent, filed, and drilled until it fit just right from the previously mentioned bolt to the back - inside of the unit. I covered this piece with the vinyl also. There is a cross brace made out of the same steel stock under the front of the unit parallel with the front of the dash. I had the wife sew a loop in the vinyl that the cross brace would fit through and had the vinyl hang down in front of the mount. I have it sandwiched between the black piece of dash trim and bolted through with some of the screws beneath it. It's hard to explain really.

Just went and took a couple more pics for ya.

I've got to go on a three day trip now fellas. I'll be back on the 24th to answer any more questions about the mount. I'll take a couple more pics of the inside when I get back.

Now THAT'S the way to build something! My whole family pokes fun at me `cause every time I fab something up, it'll withstand a nuclear blast. Why not? :)

Sound and looks like you did a first rate job. My compliments (for what they're worth).
