Does anyone have any pics of the types of different gauge mounts out thier. Thinking about the steering column pods but afraid of restricting views. Any thoughts or pics of these?

You loose a little vision around the a post but there so wide anyway you still have to lean forward to make sure. The lights of the instrument cluster drive me nuts so I always have them dimmed down. Not alot of lights out here but you can turn them up for city driving. I second the pillar mount is great.

No obstruction of view of your front left? What about the gauge lights do they shine right into your eyes?

The trick to the lights in the eyes is to tie the gauge lights into a dimmable circuit. I. E. ash tray lamp. Then you can dim them with the rest of the dash lights. Instruction on connecting to the circuit were included in the westach gauges I bought and installedon the a pillar.

My truck had the three guage pillar mount installed by the previous owner. I was not impressed with that setup really, but after a short time, I LOVE IT!. The fact that you can see the readings out of the corner of your eye without moving your head is invaluable, especially when towning in traffic in the hills where you must keep an eye on the pyro and transmission temps. I don't find that it appreciably restricts vision.

Heres my 3 gauge Mount. . Painted the plastic to match the interior.

If you tie the lights of the gauges to the dimmer for your dash lights, you can dim them so it does not bother you... I Used the green condoms for the bulbs so it is not as bright.

I've had the A-pillar setup on two 2nd Gen trucks, and dash pod on two other 2nd Gen trucks. For visual effect I definitely like the dash pod better, more line of sight. Downside is it's a little harder to install, and clean the windshield behind it.

This thread on NW Bombers has some pictures of dash pods

I have 3 on the pillar and 4 more above the rearview mirror. Up top is a great place to hide away gauges but they aren't convenient to watch as you drive.

I know my dash is laid out different than yours but thought I'd still post a pic of mine.

I debated this too... i finally mounted them down under the dash, right to the plastic climate control cover(i think that's what it is), left and right side . The biggest drawback is how far you have to move your eyes off the road, but I mostly watch them when I'm towing over the mountain passes when it's more critical to monitor them. Other than that they don't obstruct view of the road or other gauges. Oh. . you see a little wiring from the side, but clean enough for me. If you want pics let me know and I'll get some.

The one for the boost gauge is an Autometer piece. The one on the pyro was made from a PVC pipe coupler.

i have the column two guage pod and pricol guages. i think the set up looks as stock as it can get. i'll get a pic up for you today sometime.

about it...

i've had both pillar and column mounts over the years. the column mount doesn't offer the "heads up" qualities of the pillar mount. i do feel it keeps a cleaner and even stock look though. and although it takes a little more effort to look at them, i still feel the column mount's clean appearance makes up for the loss of visibility of the guages. when i'm criusing, whichever arm i'm driving with slightly blocks the guages. i'm so used to moving my arm to look at them now that i don't even notice it though. the stock guages are not hindered at all behind the column mount guages.

i felt the pillar mount was distracting, particularly at night, and i prefer not to advertise mods through the window. socal has a full stock of thieves.

one other disadvantage of the column set up is that there is only room for two guages. that works for me though. most folks like three or more. if i was to decide to get a third guage, i'd likely move all three to the pillar to keep em in one spot.

honestly, i think you'd be happy either way as far as visibility issues. the column mount is easier to undo, so it's a good place to start. i think the number of guages you desire is more of a factor on location than visibility.

on edit... just noticed your sig shows a 2nd gen. i'm pretty sure the 2nd gen column pod only has room for one guage. on my 2nd gen, i still had em on the column but it was the monitor for the edge box.

I used a Column pod for my pyrometer and I liked it there. There are some pictures of it in my "Old readers rigs gallery" to the left. There is a daytime and night time picture.

It does not obstruct the view of any of the gauges and it looked great. Like it was built that way.

And don't forget, you can get dual function gauges (one guage has two neetles for two functions on it) if your mounting locations are getting full.

Pictures as promised.....

Pictures as promised..... even though it's not a 2nd gen. i took the pics at too low an angle which makes it look like the other guages are blocked. from eye height, they are not blocked.

and a thought on the column pod... .

i've seen the westach dual guage. it's a nice looking guage.

the issue with two guages on a 2nd gen is the placement of the hazard light switch...

if you're not concerned with having hazards, a two guage pod may work??

iirc the pods are only about $30. may be worth it to try if that's really where you want them.

just tossing ideas, j

I know with my 02' you can only get a single pod for the column location. I have my Autometer Cobalt pyro on the column and my boost gauge as a single on the pillar. These lower mounting locations minimize glare at night time. The Cobalt gauges also look cool and are easy on the eyes. I also have my Snow Performance controller with pre-tubo egt's, boost, and injection percentage mounted on my dash.
