A few pictures of my recent weekend project of adding the GSI

SoundStop 1/2" foam on all 4 doors of my truck. I glued the foam

to the door panels rather than to the actual doors, because with

all the cutouts in the main doors, I felt it would be just too

difficult, and not really gain all that much.

I also have the GSI foam on the cab floor back wall and rear

panels just behind the quad cab doors. I am also thinking of

doing the roof/headliner area at some point.

I have used 6 1/2 sheets of the foam to date, a little more than 1

1/2 for the 4 doors. It is great stuff, and although I do not have

exact decibel readings, I am very happy with the results so far.

This is the only sound suppression product I have tried, and I

really like it.

The acid test.....

Tom, do you get that characteristic but healthy, muted thud on the doors when you knock-knock from the outside?

How does your in-car audio sound now by comparison?

John,

Well, I hadn't thought to try the knock on the outside of the

doors. Will do that tonight after work. But, since I attached the

foam to the door panels instead of the actual doors themselves, I

wouldn't really expect much difference in a door knock sound

test.

I still have the OEM factory sound system, and I don't think there

is really all that much difference in how it sounds, except that I

don't need it turned up quite as loud now to hear it :D

Part of my problem with saying how much of a difference I have

made to date is two fold:

1 - I have never taken any SPL readings, so I don't know how

many decibels difference there is.

2 - I have done this all in 3 separate steps fo far, and over a 2

month period. So, you do a little and get used to it, do a little

more and get used to that sound level... when you're done, you

really have a tough time remembering what the stock sound

was really like

But, I can definitely say one thing - the cab is significantly quieter

now from outside noise than it was in the begining. Although I

still have the nasty drone and resonance in the cab at 2000 -

2400 RPM, which is really what I am trying to get rid of  But

even that is quite noticeably lessened than it was when I started.

I still have about 2/3 of a sheet of foam left, and think I will do

the oil pan next. Still unsure about takling the roof/headliner... .

Tom, I dunno if you plan to make the Feb 8 Sacramento meeting Jeff is organizing, but I plan to be there, and another fella has asked me to bring my DB meter with me cuz he wants to get some readings on his truck - mine is still absolutely stock as far as noise is concerned, so we SHOULD be able to get some good comaprison readings under nearly identical conditions...

I hate to break it to ya but that really is a waste of product just putting it on the doors like that. The idea of any sound stop is to block the sound by adding mass which reduces resoance. So by simply putting it on there you might be getting a little bit of sound stop but really nothing that great. If you were to take off the dust sheet and put it on the door you would get far better results. As well as that very satisfying mercedes type feel when closing the door.

Suspect link?

Seed Guy - please recheck that link - it pops up with a secure logon screen? Is there a read-only version perhaps that you meant to insert instead?

Nice job Tom. The only concern I have is the jute felt material... if your glass seals ever leak you will have mildew problems. For that reason, I used two layers of Dynamat Xtreme (closed cell material) in each door (I haven't got to the Quad doors yet though), placing the sheets in the bottom half of the door.

EDIT: Oops! I just took another look at the installation pics you posted. I guess I didn't look close enough the first time... you insulated the inside of the inner door panel... not the inside of the outter door skin as I did. Big difference. ( )
