I've been reading for some time now about how a comp box pierces the injection pump wire...

What is this "wire" and why is tapping it bad?

Hey Chris,

The pump wire is tapped to take over control of the Fuel metering solenoid on the VP44.

An EZ box for example plugs into only the DATALINK port and manipulates timing.

A COMP box on the other hand plugs into the DATALINK as well as taps the “Pump WIRE”. I believe the comp box holds a voltage longer on the solenoid metering in more fuel per injection event.

As for the specific reason... why this “accelerates wear” or why it is hard on the VP44… I will let the more seasoned members try that one. My opinions are just that. Try a search on pump wire.

Even with the removal of the box, the pierced insulation on the wire is enough to void the warrantee.

Oh yea... There is that warrantee thing. I gave up on the Warrantee so long ago I forget about it.

on early pumps it was "bad", because it induced premature failure. They have been updated and now IMHO, it's not longer an issue. For those that cling to factory warrantee perhaps it may be, but these pumps can take a beating now. My brother's got 175k hard miles on his tapped the whole time.
