Piers "High Output" VP44 vs. DD "Modified" VP44

Anybody know what the difference is between Piers' "High Output" VP44 and Diesel Dynamics "Modified" VP44 that Bill K was referring to? If I remember correctly, Piers' H/O VP44 is MUCH less expensive ($800 or so)than the Diesel Dynamics VP44. I'm just trying to find out the differences in the two, if any, to justify the cost difference..... :D

Piers high output vp44 is to replace the "stock" vp44 on the ETH motors. So its jsut a new stock replacement.

Diesel Dynamics is a modified VP44, and is not yet available for sale as far as I know.

It can be put on yes, but not worthwhile. Diesel Dynamics tried this I believe (i know someone did) and they said it actually hurt performance. And also if ya keep up with the "boxes" you will notice the ETC motors always respond "more" with a box on that VP44 vs a box on an ETH VP44.

Last I heard, the DD special pump was worth 50+ hp over the ETC pump. Check with them, but make sure the wallet is full as the special parts are expensive to make to the ten-thousandths or better tolerances. One of the forum members [censored] is scheduled for Tuesday at DD.

When you want to be up front, you do what ya gotta ;)

Lawrence is really pushing the envelope for that overvalved engine. Meanwhile, I have a few more ideas for the correctly valved version. We want to be ready for May Madness, just in case something shows up to give a real challenge

Kat, actually it was Piers... he has installed several HO (ETH) VP44s on ETC CTDs.

HOWEVER, this "upgrade" only seems to work well on stock to lightly modified ETCs otherwise it can create driveability issues. Besides, the biggest HP is gained on a stock ETC... the more power that is added to a stock ETC results in diminished HP gain from the HO pump.

Oh well, I was just about to go this route too.

Joe, from what I've heard from two different sources, if Lawrence shows up with his [censored] you're toast!

Sorry!

:D

John,

Lawrence can spank Joe any day of the week. He doesn't need any censored parts to do it with either.

If you insert the word 'truck' into your sentence, it will read correctly. :)

For example,

Joe, from what I've heard from two different sources, if Lawrence shows up with his truck you're toast!

Sorry HiPerf360, I added the censored part as I was given information in confidence... I probably shouldn't have said what I have already. You know how it is when you kiss and tell... the information stops flowing your way. :( Anyway, it doen't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Lawrence has a greater potential for horsepower increases than anyone in the light truck Diesel indusrty. He is the innovator... he theorizes, designs and manufacturers almost all of his engine parts, trying out different variations on a theme until the optimal solution has been found through exhaustive research and development. Other products or components produced by various manufacturers are chosen by Diesel Dynamics as leaders in their respective fields... take torque converters for example, Diesel Dynamics tested most (if not all) TCs on the market before finally ending up with what they consider to be the best... DTT (Diesel Transmission Technology) even though they used to sell Brand Z TCs. The same can be said for Edge Products.

Sorry if this sounds like a DD, DTT or Edge Products advertisement it was in no way meant that way. However, I will have to say I have had nothing but excellent service from each of these companies... and let's not forget Piers of PDR. Thanks for making my Ram one *****in ride!
