Helping a buddy install a Piers HX-40 on his 97 twelve valve. This may sound like a dumb question but here goes, The new turbo has the wastegate connection right at the outlet of the turbo. Why is it like this instead of going over to the back of the afc housing??

Do we just bolt everything up and plug the old connection????

Sorry if this has been hashed over already but don't want to screw up.

Shrimpy

My 98' has the boost signal coming from the outlet side of the turbo (well it did till the 16 CM) that is just the way the truck is set up, do not, I repeat do not, block the wastegate on his 40 Piers has the thing figured out how to live, if you push it beyond it's limits it's going to break(it's man made) that's why he has them set at 40 PSI

Got it figured out!!!!! When all else fails see instructions. That is a orificed fitting on the compresser side. Talk about a INCREDIBLE upgrade :D :D :D . We did everything but the 10 plate (370's, HX-40) since he has the 11 plate. It's mind blowing to me what a difference that turbo made. My buddie was worried about loosing the quick spool up of the 12 housing. But the absolute brute force of the mid-range MORE than makes up for the slight (and I stress slight) loss on the bottom of spool up.

The pyro climbs pretty quick but puts the brakes on around 1175 and will inch up while you are in it, but nothing drastic. He is VERY happy with the upgrades. The scary part is, the 10 plate is still on the workbench :D :D

Thanks for the help JFulmer. Hillcountry and Dan, would an HX-35 with a 12 work for you!!!!!

LMAO, look at my mods! When I make the 2-3 shift my guage is pegged at 1500:D and my plate is . 050 back from the middle, I know what I need and I'm making the plan now for it... ..... lots of air!
