Finally warm enough to install my pillar gauges. The hard part seems to be routing the wiring. What are the preferred ways to get the wires from under the dash to the pillar?

I fished mine to the pillar via the fuse panel. Even drilled and tapped my grounds there and used a fuse extension for power for gauge and another one for gauge lights that vary with dash lights.

fished mine through the fues pane as well. . i used a coat hanger to pull them up through the a-pillar... i grounded mine to the apillar, and used an ad-a fuse and the lights from my ashtray.

Did you remove the stock a-pillar plastic? I got the autometer 3 gauge a-pillar and it says you don't have to remove the stock plastic, then it says to pull it out and attach the autometer plastic to the stock plastic. What do I do?

CFast,

Pull the stock a pillar. Start at the top and pull it off. There are three clips that hold it on... one on top, one in the middle and one at the bottom. Then drill it as described with the autometer instructions and push the christmas tree fasteners through to hold it on. I dirlled as close to the four corners as possible. The ones facing you will be hidden by the rubber trim that covers part of the a pillar. You won't see the back two. I had a tweeter in mine and had to take a dremel to my a pillar to get the autometer to fit over it. Good luck.

Like everyone else I fished mine though the fuse panel with a coat hanger. But with my 3 pod I removed the old A pillar and screwed the new 3 pod in. It seemed to make life eaiser.

my two pod pillar was installed as a stand alone with a screw in it. for my three pod, I attached it over the factory pillar. It was a lot more work but I like the results. I did hack my factory pillar pretty good to route the wires. I cut off the tweeter and drilled 2 inch holes for the gauge tubing/wiring. This one is painted, too. Thanks Advanced Diesel!

I ran my wires the same way everyone else did, but I pulled the dash panel off and tapped into the headlight switch for a +12v, a dimmed 12v, and a GND line. Different color wires are used on different year trucks with different style headlight switches, so make sure you reference an appropriate shop manual.

I ran three wires up into the A-pillar from the headlight switch, then tapped into each of those three as many times as I needed for the power to each gauge. That saved me from having to tap into OEM harness in more than one point per wire. Worked really well.

I recently did this mod as well. Instead of a coat hanger, I used weed eater line. It seems to be tough enough to pull the wires on through, and supple enough to get around any obstacle that would cause frustration. I have an 02 and I used add-a-circuts for the lights, and the FP gauge. The lights run off of the #5 and the power for the accersories runs off of the #8 slot in the fuse block. I grounded my wires to the firewall, just because my sender for the FP gauge was out there, it was close, and the factory already had a spot for me;) Hope this helps. God Bless, James
