Guys,

I had something weird happen tonight. This evening while driving, I was sitting at a light (with transmission in neutral) and when I went to put the transmission in gear, it would not go. I had to shut the truck off, put it in gear, and then start the motor.

Once I begin to roll, the clutch will shift between gears fine. Also, if I start it with the transmission in gear and keep my foot on the clutch, it will stay disengaged (I. E. the transmission will not begin to engage like what happens when a slave is leaking off pressure).

If I am not moving, but I have started it in gear (so I shut off truck, put it in gear, started it), I can not get it out of gear. But again, while doing this, the clutch does not drift and engage like would happen with a failing slave cylinder.

I have replaced the clutch slave on my truck before (I believe I am currently on number 4). I am currently running a SBC FE clutch (has about 10k on it). This is my third clutch on this truck.

What are your thoughts. I am hoping that someone has had a symptom similar to this, and was fixed with a slave cylinder. I really do not want to pull the transmission another time (I do not have the time to do it now).

Also, with the engine off and in a quiet place, if I push in the clutch, I can hear something clunk inside the transmission. I know the clutch is not fully disengaging, I would like to get some input as to what is possibly happening ( pilot bering, bent release fork, broken fingers of diaphram on pressure plate... )

Any information or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
