I realize this is redundant & that I had posted about this before but

has anyone seen CTDs with the old style pilot bushing in the flywheel & that the corect one wont fit?

I think Im better off with the bushing but no bushing was listed for my truck so Im a lil baffled & was hoping someone could shed light on this for me

thanks

Oilite bronze bushing

:) I haven't had mine apart yet, but am sure that they use the old style and better in my book, oilite bronze bushing. Is probably available at cummins. These are forgiving to alignment issues and I haven't ever heard of one siezing. Good luck. Tim

yeh I just did the clutch in mine because the pilot was bad when I took it apart there was NO pilot there the needle roller would not fit(too big) but a bushing from a mid 70s gasser did so thats what Im runnin

better,better

These pilot bushings work and if you look on the second gen forum, you will see plenty of problems with the needle bearings used in the pilot bearing. Tim

My 93 had an intermittent clutch chatter. At 195,000 a LSD clutch

broke in two and broke two teeth off of the pinion gear in the rear end. (Only clue was an oil mist on the trailer I was pulling that I followed to a lump that was leaking in the differential cover. )

While I had the rear end out, I decided to pull the transmission and see if I could determine what was causing the intermittent

clutch chatter. A dry(I don't think it was oilite) pilot bushing had galled and gouged the input shaft in the Getrag.

I had Ryan's Gears and Rears in Council Bluffs, IA(Omaha, NE)

put a new input shaft, and a bearing and gasket kit in the Getrag.

I installed my rebuilt transmission with a new oilite pilot bushing,

a little hi temp grease in the cavity behind the bushing, and have

enjoyed a terrific clutch ever since(33,000 miles). Ryan's tech recommended that I stick with the old style bushing even though

its not too high tech. Most of my miles are highway miles, so almost anything would probably give me good service.

I've got a SBC Kevlar Bushing in my '93 and it works great. I tried the brass bushing and the needle bearing - both left me with a vibration so after talking it over with Peter I ordered a SBC Con-O clutch and a flywheel with a Kevlar bushing. That was almost 30,000 miles ago. As I have posted before the whole setup just keeps getting better. :)

Thanks for the info, Bob. :) My stock clutch is working fine, but there is a strange, faint sound when I take off in 2nd as I let the clutch out. I'm guessing it to be a worn pilot bushing or bearing. So did our tucks come from the factory with a bushing or bearing?

Mine came with a bushing. I then had the pilot hole machined out for the bearing. The first - local - people I tried had seen 1st Gen. flywheels with both so I'm not really sure.
