I bought a 99 Northland Nash 21. 5 R 5th wheel recently and noticed the pin box is set out from the camper a long way apparently made for a short box pick-up. Does anyone know where a person could get a pin box that comes straight down on the camper to set it closer to the truck without going to a camper dealer and buying it new?

I've seen that model camper. It's very nice and efficient use of space. Can't help with the pin box other than to suggest that you try the classified section at irv2.com and see if anyone wants to swap.

Kingpin change

I went the opposite way. In order to clear my toolbox from the front corner of my trailer, I went from a straight down kingpin to one that extends 9" forward. Although the brand on mine is Leland, when I called them, they advised that you can only get them through the dealer that handles your brand of trailer (Jayco in my case) due to liabilities. Leland made one that reaches something like 22" forward, but in the case of my trailer, they wouldn't authorize it due to weight and torque considerations.

I guess the upshot of this is that I suggest you contact Nash and ask them. I realize going to a straight down one should have less torque and such.

My swap was about $150...

We have the same trailer. Mine is a 2002. I downsized from a 28 ft Jayco and like what I have now.

I actually like the extended pin box better than the standard version Jayco had. The extra room between the truck and trailer allows me to remove the tailgate and use a large storage box that extends well past my rear bumper. I have also seen someone using the extra space for a bicycle rack which plugged into the rear trailer hitch. Consider carefully before you change it.

RDODD

I have one that I bought and used on a different rig I had a few years back. It's 12 and 1/2 inches wide . I don't know where your located but if were not close I bought this one at a local trailer parts dealer, ie', utility, enclosed and rv trailer parts... ... ... JIM

There are more brands and models of pin boxes then Pick-ups. For my 2 cents the longed the distance is from the pin to the wheels the easer it is to back the trailer, and it gives you more room to back under the pin with the tail gate down. I changed mine out for a Mor/ryde pin box don't know if It's worth the $,but it sure works nice.
