New Truck and I want to remove the adhesive backed pen stripes the Dealer put on my truck. I've done this in the past with a heat gun and they came right off, along with the adhesive (glue) but it was in the warm part of the year and the metal on the truck was warm. Well it has gotten cold now and they will not come off very well with this method. If I get the stripe off the glue won't come off. Plus it takes forever to get the stripe hot enough to peel off. Any ideas, that won't ruin the paint and won't take forever?

Thanks

Two Ideas

I recommend you do one of three things:

1) park it in a heated garage for 24 hours and carefully use the heat gun.

2) Wait 'til Spring to remove 'em.

3) You might be able to use the heat gun on the cold truck by very gradually heating it back and forth about 2 feet and gradually get closer moving back and forth the whole time. Do about two feet at a time. don't woory about getting all the adhesive off with heat, use Goo BeGone (WalMart, Lowes etc... ) on the adhesive. Be patient: It's a slow tedious process.

Thanks Wiredawg

My garage is not heated. I might just wait until spring. I took one of the two stripes off the tail gate and it took forever and some of the glue is still on there. They are very small and light grey colored on my Red truck so they are not that noticable that I can not wait for a change in the weather. Maybe we will have a heat wave in November :)

when I took mine off I used a stright razor and then got to glue of wiht some 3M adheisive remover took a litle while and have to have a steady hand but it sure looks better. just a thought

You can get a rubber thingy that goes in your cordless drill and it rubs them off without hurting the paint. You can take off the bigger stickers with it also. It can even be cold and they come right off. I am be wrong but it my be made by 3-M. It feels like a soft pencil eraser. If you can find one you can call me at work and I can get you the name.
