Is there a set pin weight calculation based on total GVWR of fifth wheels?

I'd like to find out what our's is as there is no marking anywhere of the pin weight.

The trailer is a 34' Spinnaker by forest river with a GVW of 12,440#

The two axles a pretty far forward , the unit has a massive tail swing. I'm tring to decied if we should upgrade to a one ton. I have been amazed that the truck is stock and can move this trailer around. I only have difficulties holding speed on steep grades.

On a 8% grade I will go from 65 to 45mph. And just hold 45 at 2500 rpm.

pin weight calculation

I'll just give you the data on our lighter-weight 5er so you can compare it with other answers.

We weighed it at certified scales and found pin weight = 1580 and axles weight = 5800 on a trailer with an 7,500# GVWR.

The trailer was fully loaded for a four-month trip (we left that afternoon) with half-full water tank, etc.

The pin weight on fivers is typically between 20% and 25% of the gross vehicle weight. Since there is such a variation in trailer floor plans and storage provisions it is best to weigh the rig to be sure. My 18,000 pound fiver had a pin weight of 3500 pounds which is just under 20%. I have since put this rig on a serious diet but have not reweighed it to get the new numbers but should be around 16,000 gross and 3300 on the pin.

However, from the information you gave, my guess is that your rig has a bedroom slide and you are in all probability seriously overloaded especially with your axle ratio of 3. 54. Again, weigh it to be sure but I think you are probably looking at a dually if you want to be within the truck's towing rated towing capacity.
