I am considering installing an AVIC-Z2 in my '06. Has anyone done this and how did you like it? I especially want a large screen built-in GPS with hard drive instead of a nav disk.

I would be replacing my factory radio so I know I need the double+ DIN center radio bezel. Is there anything else needed for installation, such as a special installation bracket or mount? How about ease of installation?

Any info, advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

In addition to the factory nav bezel you mentioned you will need a Metra dash installation kit 99-6510 and the Can-Bus Chrysler radio harness.

On atleast the AVIC-D3 you can download custom backgrounds, so that is where the Dodge logo came from.

Goto AVIC411.com for a bunch of good information on the AVICs, if I were a betting man I'd guess you could download a custom background onto the Z2 also, but I am not positive.

I installed the AVIC-Z1 in my truck about 8 months ago. The only downside to the radio is the Ipod interface. It is really slow and searching for a song can take awhile. The navigation works excellent the only problem I have had with the navigation is I had originally installed the antenna under the dash. The signal strength was week in the position I installed it, however, I have since moved it to the top of the dash and have had no problems. I am currently debating on installing XM to get the NavTraffic feature the Z1 offers. I would recommend this radio to anyone looking into a navigation system. And as far I as I know the Z1 is very similar to the Z2.
