Pioneer wiring harness not available

I could not find the post but awile back someone pointed out the Pioneer DEH-P47 CD player to me. I finally got around to ordering this unit from SmilePhotoVideo.com (after my radio died altogether) as recommended for 189. 95. Wife called from home, the unit came in only about two days!

Getting to the point, after I ordered the radio, I tried to order the RD-CH84 wiring harness but that is no longer available.

Anyone have any suggestions before I mess something up. I was thinking about using the female ends from the factory unit to make up a harness. I have the factory manual to reference the wiring.

QRTRHRS,

Have you checked at Best Buy-when I looked at a Pioneer this past year they had the connectors. Also,You can check at Crutchfield(I think that's spelled right). They have a web site you could browse through-I think it's crutchfield.com if that's not it,look through a stereo magazine, they advertise.

I emailed Crutchfield but they did not have a harness for it either. Another member suggested Wal-Mart. I am going to check that out tomorrow.

I got a generac harness from my local stereo store. I have the infinitty system but did not buy the CD part because I already had a pioneer. It was already wired from my 96 dodge and plugged right in. But the front speakers did not work. There is an additional wire that says Power antenna you got to hook up, it supplies power to the speaker amps.
Cost about $15. 00 Its just a pig tail that mates with the Dodge harness. You then splice it to the radio wires.

Are you looking for the actual harness for the head unit itself or the harness to integrate with the factor wiring in the Dodge?

If it is the latter, Crutchfield does have them (I bought one from them), Best Buy, and any car audio shop in your town should have one. I'm pretty familiar with this kind of stuff as I worked at a car audio sales and installation shop for about a year.

If you are looking for the actual harness for the head unit try Pioneer directly or any authorized Pioneer dealer should be able to help you.

I was looking for the Pioneer harness that I understood would go between the factory harness and the Pioneer harness. I did call Pioneer's service department after not getting anywhere online. Upon being told that the harness is no longer made, I asked for suggestions. The tech suggested I contact a local stereo shop or something. Big deal! Lots of help there.

In all fairness to Crutchfield, I only asked for the harness by number. I did not elaborate as I had bought the stereo elsewhere to save some money. (I am not one of those "guys". )

It's not like I couldn't just wire it in like the old days, just want to make it quick.

Thanks to all the suggestions though. I will post what I come up with.

QRTRHRS,

Maybe I'm missing something here. There is a harness to go between the factory harness and the wires of the pioneer unit you purchased. I am not sure of the model number of the harness, but I am unaware that Pioneer makes one.

All of the harnesses I have used in the past have been of many different makes. The only one that comes to mind now is Soche. Just two weeks ago I installed a CD player, pioneer no less, in my friends 94 Ram 1500 and went to the local stero shop and bought the harness for $14. Like I said I ordered my harness from crutchfield for, I think $8. Best Buy sells them for $15.

The wiring part to the install was matching up the pioneer wires to the correct wires on the intermediate harness and crimp on a few butt connectors, and then plug it in to the factory harness (never had a problem with crimp connectors, but I imagine in some way soldering is probably better).

I made an assumption that I shouldn't have, the pioneer unit you purchased is a head unit correct, not a cd changer?

Please email me if you have more questions or if I can somehow help you further.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I got the intermediate harness at Wal-Mart for $6. Real no brainer, wire colors match right up. I got to get out more I guess.

As for the Pioneer CD player; good replacement at a reasonable price.
