Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) KDP Advice

I bought a new set of OEM Cummins oversize pistons and rings on Ebay cheap. They are for a 1993 intercooled rotary pump engine. I am installing them in a P-pump engine with a 1996 auto trans. pump and injectors. The only difference is the shape of the knob in the piston recess or pocket. The new ones have more of a point on the knob. Has anyone had experience in this type of swap?

i am just thinking while typing here but it is probably only because of the different spray angles from the injectors. i have heard of someone taking stock pistons and getting them cut by a machine shop to match the injector spray of different injectors. if you look in my readers rigs page you will see the difference in my pistons cut to my 370s as opposed to stock.

These look remarkably similiar to the industrial pistons. However, you likely have an edge with your ring placement on the automotive vs. the industrial piston.

Good luck on your pistons and happy rebuild. Perhaps be careful with the FP Diesel headgasket and valve stem seals, if you've purchased such a kit.

these pistons were built by enterprise simply based on the spray angle of the 370 injector. the motor has been running strong since jan 1, depending on which injector is used in the industrial application is going to depend on which piston is used and for what application. look closely at another members pistons on his high performance motor he built, very similar pistons.

My engine is a 1995 160hp medium duty engine. My old pistons look exactly like your old pistons. The new ones look to have the same shape protusion as your custom pistons but the pocket is the same size and location as the original ones.
