Knowing that I am still being pretty torn up about this and having unresolved frustrations of how to help out, someone mailed me the following. I find it appropriate on this day of mourning. Remember that 9/11/01 will be one of those days that you will recall the rest of your life. Why not associate it with something good, strong and durable like a tree...

My sister when she was in duress awhile ago over a personal problem, planted a tree. Her problem is gone now and the tree stands about thirty feet tall. It stands as a symbol of her strength to get through a really hard time for her. I wrote a poem for her at the time which goes like this"
The Tree
I planted a tree,
as an extension of me.
In my darkest hour, when I could see
No Beauty... in the springtime flowers...
My tree now has grown, now I'm never alone,
My eyes see hope, evrytime my hand slopes...
Down your evergreen branches...
Now we both stand tall,
Seeing beauty in all,
That's around us...
Those dark days are gone,
The long nights not so long.
I awake to the bird's morning song,
My eyes wide open to see...
Giving thanks everyday
On my knees knelt that day...
And planted...
My Tree...
