Not sure how many models have this **** poor plastic bottle setup. I've read, and have lost teh post, about being able to relocate it - in fact some of you follks have taken it off - but I don't want the oil all over the place - but where it is located it is a pain to get after and it sucks odor into cab etc. A couple of questions:

1. Relocating the bottle - please help on where and how???????

2. Does the Cummins have any back pressure to the bottle - i. e. can I put something like say kitty-litter or paper towels into the bottle to absorb the oil and make it easier to clean - or will Mr Cummins suck this up into the Motor???? My next door neighbor is a fireman and he was concerned that using paper might cause a firehazard? Any suggestions on material inside the bottle?????

For the first question, I took off the stock bottle and bought Geno's catch-all bottle. It was very easy to install. There is some other topic on other fixes, some a lot cheaper, and work just as well. Do a search to view all other options.
For your second question: I would not use stay-dry in bottle(what a mess). There was one member used a sponge in the bottle. (don't know how well it works) I wanted to move the bottle off to the side out of the way. Just another personal choice for you to make. have a good day

Got rid of my bottle last week. Hooked a 8 ft. 3/4 inch heater hose to the hose that went into the bottle and ran the hose and tie wraped it along the frame to behind the cab. No more bad smell.

hammersley,

Just relocated the blowby bottle this afternoon. I bought 6' of 3/4" heater hose along with a 3/4" union and a 90 degree elbow from local parts store. After removing the bottle, I used the union to connect the new hose into the factory hose. I ran the hose along the drivers' side frame (couldn't find a convenient hole to run the hose inside the frame rail without crimping it). Then I bolted the bottle up to the frame (through an already existing hole) just behind the bellhousing of the transmittion. I placed one side of the 90 degree elbow into the end of the heater hose, and on the other side I put a small 2" piece of the hose on, and put it down through the lid about half way down into the bottle. Total cost $15. I probably did not run the hose as far back as some, but have had no trouble since with the smell of oil in the cab. This was as far back as I felt I could go to keep a downward angle on the hose, and still run it back into the bottle. This will definitely solve my problem of all the oil I had on the front of my engine before the relocation. After I first bought the truck I actually thought I had an oil leak from somewhere in front of the engine (turned out to be coming from the bottle). Hope this helps.

Chris

Chris - the union you used - did you get something from like home depot for irrigation hose or did you get it at a parts house? Sounds good - and I'll try the same thing - thsnks to all.

hammersley,

I bought the fittings at the parts house (Napa). However, the 3/4" fittings from a building supply store should work as well, and are probably cheaper there. I bought them at Napa just for the convenience of already being there. Also, one other thing I did was to make the 2" piece of hose fit snug into the lid. Having only one hose go through the lid left about an 1/8" gap between them. I remedied this by doubling up on the hoses here (one inside the other). I only had 3/4" hose, so I had to do a little fabricating here. Used a rotary tool to widen the hole in the lid to acommodate both hoses, applied a little dish soap to the hose and walla (perfect fit). This was probably not really necessary, but seemed like a good idea to me. Good luck!!

Chris

Parts house has unions and 90* el. Ran mine behind the cab, Pass side up under bed and used an oil jug to collect residue. Put a couple of plastic Chore Girls in the jug. cut a flap in the top of the jug for ventilation. If you reuse the stock specimen bottle you will have the same problem with oil & blow by some where else. It is too small.
