I hear alot of talk about ppl doing this. What plate and what does it do?

I have a #5 tst in my 94' and Im curious what that term means.

The so called torque plate (full load throttle stop) controls how much the rack moves for wide open throttle. If you push the plate forward that allows more rack movement so you get more fuel. Before messing with it you need an EGT gauge.

I have the gauges, so you are saying I can slide that cam plate forward more. Cause I thought thats what the TST plate did was just let the rack move more which increases fuel.

So if im thinking right I can get more outta my cam plate?

more heat!!!

I wouldnt go further than 3/4's with that plate in your 94. the 94's seem to run hotter than most others. (small pump)

2/3's is about the best play ground to play in. call TST and talk to them.

Is it easy to do?

I helped the guy put my new cam plate in so I have a general knowledge of what to do.

Im in the dark here.

pull the cover and ??

Pull the cover and loosen the 2 screws that hold the plate and slide it. All the way will prolly give you more power but more smoke too. If you do that watch that EGT gauge real close for a while. If the EGTs are managable you are in good shape. I run my #11 all the forward even when towing and watch the gauge, works pretty good.

Its pretty easy to do, so try it and see if you like it. I believe you will be pleased. Have you loosened your AFC control spring?

I messed with my AFC alot to get my smoke down. I have it set so it smokes but not so it just dumpes it out.

Is that all sliding it forward does?

So its like loosing your AFC?

I moved my stock plate all the way forward and

the cover all the way forward.

When attempting to take off hard, the clutch (stock)

would slip.

So I moved it back maybe a 1/16 of an inch.

Adjust the star wheel to my liking, now I have

plenty of power with hardly no smoke (unless gouging it)

and avg 20 mpg highway.

Ain't these dodges great:D

be careful when moving it forward, if the gov. lever is not adjusted correctly to u moving it, the throttle spoon can get stuck under the plate. I think that a hair back from forward is about as far as u want to go. We could really go on for days about where to but it. What Piers has told me in discussions over plate possision, is that it should be a little infront of middle to 3/4 or so. He mentioned Faster HP. Piers says 18 mm of rack travel, some others say 21. As a general rule of thumb i position it an 1/8 to a 1/16" past middle for mild increases and an 1/8 " from full forward on full power hp increases. But when moving the plate from forward to back check Gov. Lever posision. After looking at pumps and seeing how they work, i would think that Gov. Lever adjustment could increase or decrease fuel when the spoon hits the plate. This can go into a whole discussion. To check Gov. Lever adj. go to Piers' website and go to technical, its all listed there, good luck in making that CTD move out! Reb

Before you loosen the screws, you can mark the position of the plate using a scribe. The top of the pump surface scribes real easy. :) If you slide all the way forward & scribe again, you can make your measurments with ease. Oo.

Then, in a year or so after all the plate movement & changes are over, you won't be able to see the scribe marks because the plate will end up all the way forward. :-laf

I have my TST #6 plate all the way forward and didn't notice much change in power from the stock position, stock was almost all the way back. I did get some more smoke off the line but my seat of the pants meter didn't register any more power.

Beware, you will most likely have to adjust the governor lever, I did. It's not complicated but can be a bear. You are working blind at the back of the pump.

I moved my plate forward today it only moved about 1/16th of an inch. That normal?

So I put it all back together and went for a drive. I dont know if I moved my afc housing back or what but my low end went to crap. I had almost no smoke when I would lug it, my CTD was very doggy at low end so I loosened my AFC spring and now it smokes like it did and I think it helped just a little.

Nothing to impressive but I do think it helped some.

Make sure that your AFC housing is all the way forward. The housing needs to be full forward all the time no matter where the plate is. This should help your low end lag. :D
