Ok don't try this at home ..... but last Friday I was heading west on I - 84, coming from Pendleton. I was cruising about 73, (actually vowing to try and check the fuel mileage on this tank) when what did I see but a shiny new Chev 2500 HD CC Dmax 4X4 entering the freeway - time for some fun. I just nudged past him and then pulled out of the hammer lane. He slowly pulled along side and then as he went past he gunnned her - well to He-- with the mileage check, the fun was on. I immediately took chase as he had gained about 3-4 truck lengths. In no time I was behind him at 95 and I was gaining on him very fast - he pulled out of the H lane, and you should have seen the look on his face as I rushed past him at about 105. As my speeedo went past the big 115 mark I saw him ease off in the mirror, and so I slowed back down to 75 - he must have slowed down to about 60, because he was through, and disappearing. I don't think you'll see this over on the other page. With just the slight mods I've made it is amazing as to how well these little 6's will really fly!

When my brother's new Duramx is delivered, I'll have couple of months to play with it before taking it up to ND for him. It will be interesting to see how it runs after it breaks in a little. I've only driven tight ones off the dealer's lot so far. If it's anything like the jap motor in my Tundra, once it loosens up, it will really start honkin!

well, in the Duramax, unless you get some type of speed govener eliminator, the truck won't even budge past ~97MPH

And yes, at 75MPH all the way to 96MPH they run FAST.

The Duramax accelerates at nearly the same rate from 25MPH to 45MPH as it does from 65MPH to 85MPH.

Did you pass the duramax up at the Fuel station ?

Wouldn't be hard to do at all,,

My D-max tale

My racing experience with the Duraslax is even better. I was cruising west on I-40 near Kingman, AZ a few months ago, when I came upon a brand new D-max, complete with dealer plates, climbing a long, steep hill. When he sped up to keep pace with me, I jumped on it. I was watching him in my mirror while I was doing about 100 mph comfortably up the hill, when black smoke suddenly belched out from his tailpipe and hood, and he hit his hazard lights. Last time I saw him he was pulling to a stop on the side of the hill, obviously cussing and probably rethinking his choice in trucks.

Another funny tale happened the other day while I was hanging out in Southern California. I was stuck behind some tourist in a Mustang. He was driving very slowly, and stopping often in traffic to look at the sites along the road. Behind me was some freak in a Miata, top down. He kept honking at me and swerving, and I saw him throw me the bird on a couple of occasions as he couldn't see the Mustang in front of me. I reached down and put my Comp box and level 5 for maximum smoke and waited for the Mustang to pull over. When he did, I jumped on it hard, leaving a thick black cloud in the cockpit of the Miata. I was laughing so hard that I almost got in an accident watching the Miata driver (which I can't for the life of me believe that a man would drive in the first place) wave his arms frantically trying to clear the smoke so he could see.

I guess I haven't been making any friends lately on the road, but man I love the smell of diesel in the morning.

Another funny tale.....

Your story would much more credible if you would have turned aound and investigated if he needed any help, a tow, or even just a "friend" to help him out.

Be carefull about how high the "Brand wars" can get,, even though he was driving a Duramax,, which is his own choice,, as long as he is happy, and it is what he wants,, This is Capitalism at it's best. SO he didn't Buy a Dodge/Cummins,, Maybe he didn't want the transmission troubles,, The Lift Pump troubles,, The brake problems. . So he went for something new. He is still a person, has his own life, and feelings,, He might have felt bad about you passing him, or maybe not, maybe the other way around?? Maybe he felt like you were another inconsiderate Dodge/Cummins owner, out there to prove him wrong about his decision.

I am NOT Flaming YOU, or ANYBODY on this board. What I am trying to say is Ford and Chevy owners are all PEOPLE!! If my truck is on the side of the road with a lift bump gone to the big diesel tank in the sky,, I would be absolutely joyous with a Chevy/Ford owner coming over to help me, or give me a pull somewhere. It's not all about the truck(s).

I've said it before,, My Dad has a Duramax, and when I read your post, (or any other post dealing with D-Max) there are only three people who I can picture in the driver seat. . A good friend of mine with a 2001 4x4 Short bed, and My Dad's truck with either My Dad, or me Driving.

If I was driving along,, and some Dodge truck came along side of me,, started to play, and my truck/motor/transmission etc decided to puke,, I would be heart broken that the other guy didn't/wouldn't turn around to see if I was ok. Especially since we were playing around.

I'm 18 yrs old, I have about 5 GOOD friends here in town. One has a Chevy Duramax 4wd, another a '79 Chevy 3/4 ton 4wd, another a '94 Ford Ranger, another a Ford Explorer, and another an '89 Ranger. IF ANY of these people broke down I would do my best to help them.

Just because somebody else is Driving a Duramax/Powerstroke, etc. Doesn't give us a right to just leave them on the side of the rode,, especially if they were playing.

{sniff-sniff}

----------

Ok, Done venting now,, off of soapbox.

P. S. I love Dodge, and we will be going back to Dodge soon instead of this Chevy,, Just becarefull how you play out there. Remember,, PEOPLE Drive these Vehicles.

MCummins-

I didn't instigate anything! I was driving along at my usual highway pace with the cruise set at 73 when I passed him, and he came after me, so I jumped on it. I was at least a half mile out in front when he hit the wall, so just stopping was not an option. I was also in the middle of a twelve hour drive and on the way to a job interview that I couldn't be late for. Enough of my explanation.

Also, I don't hold anything against anybody, and I'm not childish enough to dislike anyone for anything they drive. Most of my friends here are Ford drivers, and that doesn't stop me from hanging out with them. I think the conclusions that you jumped to in regards to my character and driving style are a little out of line.

As I don't know you, nor you me, I will not dgrade your character as you have done mine here. I had no idea that this was a forum for telling people how they should live their life.

ReggieRam.

Maybe I am taking this personal since we have a Duramax in our driveway everynight, and we depend on it for our work.

Please don't take this as a Flame. . I AM IN NO WAY,, ZERO,, Trying to get at you.

As I said, I'm 18yrs old,, and know what it's like for peple to tell me how to do what, how to drive, how to modify my truck,, sometimes it comes accross personal,, sometimes it I can blow it off without thinking about it. .

I did not know YOUR situation. yet, neither, am I after you.

I have read your post before about the smoking D-Max, it was copied here, and pasted to the D-Max board. I read what they had to say, and what we at TDR Had to say. . THey didn't like (of course) and everybody here was having a good time about it.

I liked it,, but could only make up the details using my own life as a frame of how it happened. I live in a "sleepy old town" there is ALWAYS time to turn around. I understand your circumstances now,, and it was a dealer vehicle,, he's got help there ,, also, since he was a dealer, I KNOW he 90% wanted to probly whip you bad. Glad you shrunk his EGO, now he can actually look under the hood... . :)

I had a good friend named Reggie, (we both moved away from each other) I will listen to you, and DO NOT want to hurt your feelings.

Please don't take my Post as an "attack" on you.

I just wanted to ask people to remember that PEOPLE drive vehicles, not Manufacturers, or bodies without faces.

{shake?}

Thanks

Thanks,, I knew, (barely :) ) that this could be settled in a mature matter.

Huge FLAME opportunity cooled down by the waters of Friendliness, and Forgiveness :D

Three letters,,, T - D - R

It must be the Diesel :)

MerrickNJr

P. S. The quote part was in bad taste, but since it's been settled I'll leave it there unless otherwise asked to remove it.

I just wish i could find one that wants to play ... . I have only seen two in Omaha, and I couldn't get them to to do anything. Hell i can't even et the Fords to play..... only "truck" have raced are other Dodges (I didn't start it. . but i did finish it :D) and some half ton gassers of all types. I try to find Mustangs and camaros now... ... .

Whew, looked like the ETG's were up about 1400 or so there. Glad you guys lets the temps cool before ya melted a piston or two.

Good job to both of you!.

On another note: One can never have too many friends. When boating at our favorite watering hole, we often have to pull our buddies 2x4 PSD dually out from the hole he dug trying to retrive his boat from a dirt ramp. :D

He's offered to return the favor(s) for a tow from anywhere to anywhere when my transmission blows up.

That being said, I've noted his cell phone number just in case. :)

Ma 'n Pa did good!

Mcummings,

For 18 years you have got some good sense, I have kids above and below 18 and it's a hard job to teach them how important it is to take care of their fellow man. The sad part is you were "sparring" with a Paramedic.

We were on vacation in Utah a few years back, love those back roads, Came upon a pregnant lady with three kids and a flat tire, I did the right thing... . and her spare was NG! After the trip a couple friends were over and my wife told the story... ..... Matt said "you wouldn't do that for me", I said, "if you were pregnant I would"!

Best to you,

Mike
