:--)Hey Guys,
Driving along @65, up and down some small hills and all of a sudden it sounded like a playing card in the bike spokes was coming from under the truck. I pulled over thinking I might have hit and was dragging something but there was nothing. I got back in and started to take off and the truck shuddered when I let off the clutch and the noise was there, in all gears except 4th. Had to short shift to 4th and limp home. Never any better or worse thru too many stop signs and lights to home. 267,000 on trans, new clutch @ 255,000

96 FSm nv4500. Noisy operation= "Transmission noise is most often a result of damaged components. Chipped, broken gear or synchronizer teeth and brinneled, spalled bearings all cause noise."
Abnormal wear and damage to internal components is normally the end result of insufficient lubricant, non recommended lubricants or improper operation.

Worn, damaged misaligned clutch components can cause difficult shifting gear clash and noise.

I don't know what that could be... My buddies at work once put a big pandit around my drive shaft... Ha ha ha... I work with some jokers, but I am guilty of pulling some good pranks too.
I hope your noise turns out to be nothing serious.

If the noise was in every forward gear except 4th I've been there. I was hooked to an 11,000 pound 5er at the time. From when I first faintly heard the noise until it was a gawd-awful racket was about 150 miles of eastern Oregon hills. Your countershaft has a problem, and it will not get better. I recommend these guys, best in the business IMO. http://standardtransmission.com/

Thanks to everyone for the responses. Can anyone refer a good shop in the Houston area, I work on the NW side.

You'll find all the reman nv4500 are made out of parts cast from lead and or bubble gum plated lead they might last the warranty period if your lucky ? Head the blue menthal are pretty good I don't know . The sad part is nobody is making any parts for these transmissions except China and the parts just won't hold up as many of those things as there are out there you would think somebody make some decent Parts you don't have much choice though outside of upgrading to one of the 6 speed transmissions
