I posted this a few days ago and recieved one reply all the vast knowledge out there on TDR maybe I posted this on the wrong discussion so I will try again. thank you in advance.

A friend has a 1994 CTD less than 65000 miles auto trans

he lives where there is no internet access and has this on going problem I talked him into buying a CTD and right now he is not very happy any help please. thank you in advance.

1st

new throttle cable installed

2nd

radio burned up really

3rd

turn signal stayed on when the turn sig switch was off and the key was off

4th

going down the hwy in cruise control or not when brake was applied the truck would try to die after. stopping when tried to restart truck would not restart had to wait a while before the truck would run again and this time the truck would not start at all. had to have towed last time

5th

one mech. thought it was the cruise control disconnected the cruise drove it for a few days no problem then it started to act like the cruise was still on even though the cruise was disconnected.

All this started when the throttle cable was replaced

ground issues

sound as though he may have ground trouble to me. A bad ground be it frame, body, battery or engine can make some very strange things happen. I 've never had this type of problem with mine (96) but from many years of wrenching that is where i'd start looking. I did have a shifter cable melt once on a 79 camaro when i tried to start it bycouse there was no engine ground.

good luck

Definitly the first place to start would be all the grounds. Remove bolts, clean, smear w/dielectric grease and tighten. Chec for wires rubbing through insulation on body, frame, engine, etc. replace / repair. Definitly something electrical going wacky.

hopfully a little help

I had to print it off tooooo much to remember.

1 st Needless to say that the throttle cable is was the problem. ( measure to see if 12 volts or less is present on cable. ?? is there any burning showing?)

2 nd Radio burned. Says that it has a positive voltage feed not fused.

So a positive 12 v on throttle cable (cutting across some wire maybe the wire #6 that comes out of PDC or the wires that feed the manifold heater?

3 rd Turn sig still has 12 volts on it ( what is the feed wire for it) Key wasn't in the cct for the start / run for the turn signal. #1 and 21 ,#2 and 22 feed start/run.

4 th. truck wanting to die says that it is losing it's 12 volts. ( don't know wire in start /run or ground). The stopping and tring to restart says that it is drawing a lot of current and some switch ( start/ run) has to cool. Does throttle cable cut across the ignition switch somewhere? With truck now wanting to start says fuses for start run were taken out or the too much current took out ingnition switch.

5 th. some kind of back feed for the cruise control. if it is still operating.

Check all of the bulkhead connectors.

Things like this interest me so I hope that some of this helps. Sorry don't know particular wire #s.

When the truck is not starting is it cranking but not turning over?

Does the engine (try) die when the brake is applied or when come to a stop?

There was recall on throttle cable, they were breaking. Should be simple procedure to replace but they would have to really mess up to get the throttle cable to contact wires.

Radio wiring must of shorted out. I would look into this further.

Left turn signal sounds like messed up multi-function switch. Switch would have power running to it when ignition turned off. Hazard lights would need power igntion off or on.

If brakes are causing engine to die it sounds like an electrical short.
