Early 04 5.9 with FASS TSS 095 installed.
Fuel gauge on dash rarely works and I'm going to drop tank soon to clean it out and address the following issues I could use some advise with.
1. If sending unit sensor tests bad, should I just replace it with a new MOPAR sensor/float for $83 or is it a better idea to replace entire fuel basket with the $199 Vulcan complete module assembly?

2. What is the best draw straw (or maybe sump) setup I should go back with? I do not know what exactly my oem setup looks like down in there, but does the oem sending unit/drawstraw have any type of prefilter on it that should be cleaned? Do any of the aftermarket drawstraws or sumps have prefilters in them? I know the FASS will do its job but womdering if while I'm in the tank, should I add some sort of prefilter?

Just looking for the best advice on what to do while I have this tank dropped? I ha e heard of 1/4 tank issues but never had that problem myself. IF i go back with a bottom-feeding sump, I have to wonder if it will be prone to picking up trash perhaps?
Are these 1/4 tank issues mostly caused by driving on steep inclines or what because I've never had this problem personally.
Thanks for any recommendations you can offer with what best to do here.

What AH64ID said, that is the cleanest all around solution when adding a FASS. Yes, the baskets can plug with asphaltenes unless you are diligent about using additives that eliminate and clean them off all the fuel system parts, and, since you have a 15 year old truck with plastic part sin the fuel tank it would be a good idea to replace them.

Thanks for the suggestion. That Glacier unit AH64 posted above looks very similar to the $199 Vulcan unit that Genos sells. However, can you guys tell me what more it (or the $199 Vulcan from Genos) would offer, as opposed to me just buying another $83 sending unit float/sensor (also from Genos) to repair my existing in-tank sending unit assembly?
As stated, I will be dropping and cleaning the tank, so I'm just wondering why I should pay $200 for the sending unit AH64 linked above, as opposed to $100 to replace the sensor and float on my existing in-tank sending unit? Is the unit above of a better quality or something? Thanks for all your help.
