Want to install boost gauge this weekend. Could someone please tell me specifically which bolt to remove near the fuel filter. I have a 98 12v in case it matters. Also do I need to buy any other pieces or adapters if I go this way. Is this also the easiest way for my year ?? Hopefully this wont turn out like my project last weekend when i lost my magnet in my exhaust manifold installing my pyro and I had to pull my manifold-THANKS

The plug you want to remove isn't the 3/4 pipe plug near the fuel filter the 24V folks must deal with. If i think back to my happier 12V days theres a 1/8 npt plug with a 7/16" wrench size on it up toward your injection pump. Its up toward the front facing outwards on the intake manifold. You'll need to find a 1/8npt brass ell with a compression fitting on the other end. They're hard to find but they exist. Attach hose between that and the gauge and thats pretty much it.

It's down below the inlet air heater.

Do what I did dude, put a "T" fitting on the front of the turbo where the wastefate fits in. One side goes to the wastetgate, the other to your gauge. MUCH EASIER.

The 1/8" fitting on the 12 valves is pretty darn easy. Mounting on a tee off the wastegate means routeing the tubeing around the hottest area of the engine,if you go that route I would suggest useing metal tubing. Not positive, but pretty sure that the wastegate location will not work for a 24 v. due to electronic boost control.

illflem is correct, Cummins told me not to use that location (will not convey an accurate indication of actual boost pressure). In addition, I was also told the 3/4 NPT fitting was not the best idea either (too close to the source... gauge fluctuation is usually the result). Instead, they suggested to drill and tap the intake manifold runner on the 24v engine (or use the 1/8-27 NPT port on the 12v engine, located just ahead of the intake manifold runner).
