I have a superchips tuner. I'm getting the impresssion that that's a waste.

I see smarty/catcher/mad ecm all the time. Are those three the same things? Those are computer replacements right?

the Edge is a separate box that adjusts fueling right? So that can be used with other stuff like the computer replacements?

I'm very confused if you can't tell. I've read the catcher thread by the way. :eek:verload:

Simple version...

The Catcher was the original Smarty and was not adjustable. The Smarty is a downloader like your Superchips but much easier to operate and has more programs to choose from. I had the Catcher and now the Smarty, definitely recommend the Smarty.

The Edge box comes in two basic flavors, Edge Ez which is mild, and Edge Comp which can be wild. The Comp adds timing and fuel. Both Edge boxes can be used with the Smarty however the timing advantages of Smarty cannot be used.

The TST box is fueling only. This is a very good box to add to the Smarty because the Smarty controls timing.

My recommendation: Smarty 1st, then TST. That is, of course, after you have guages, airflow improvements on intake and exhaust, and clutch or automatic transmission upgrades to handle the power.

Bombs away!

does the edge comp not have the same settings as the EZ and then some more? I'll use mild for the most part, but it's nice to have the power there if you call on it.

I have gauges. Boost, Fuel pressure, and EGT.

I'm going to destroy the transmission then buy a new one. I have a spare go to work car.

so the ultimate goal is either:

1. an Edge Comp OR

2. a Smarty AND a TST box.

Smarty and TST. Why use an EZ to get your timing when you can use the Smarty and get all of the other benefits as well? The low RPM fueling of the Smarty is NOT available with any other add-on, box or programmer. You will LOVE it, especially with a built auto trans.

I ran a Edge EZ for several years until the Smarty came out. I did not want to give up my ECM for the original Mad ECM/Catcher. The Smarty is now 1st mod I would recommend to anyone. It rocks! Oo. Not too mention it clears codes and calibrates for tire size. The truck runs smoother and pulls higher RPM than the EZ did. Give it a try.

I would like to add 1 more question. would the edge comp be as good as the EZ-TST stack and which TST would be the best match stage 1 2 or 3?I have an EZ alone right now and the pickup is in the shop right now getting all BD diesel products added like transmission TC, VB and pressurelock. Engine getting BD super B single turbo and 90hp Bd injectors and a 95 gph stand alone FASS pump. Would like to know which combo would work best for me. The shop carries blue chip and this is the only 1 I am not familiar with. I will have dyno results from the shop when I pick it up next wednesday too. were guessing it to be 300+ HP and 700+ torque. We'll see.

If you already have a an EZ or Bully Dog as i had and looking to take a big step in hp. IMO i had rather spend $649 on a tst comp box than $649 on a smarty.

I have never run a smarty stacked w/tst(i would like to) but i can say that the ez/tst stack does fuel very hard on the bottom end and the tst comp dosent defuel until 3200 rpm.

which level of tst 1,2 or 3

ok, think of it like this.

I've got a FASS on my 99 auto and I don't care about the trans.

I need to be able to tow 10k or so.

so what mods besides intake, exhaust and mach 4 injectors would you do?

All that's left is pretty much turbo and electronics, so from nothing to dropping the wad, what combo would you be looking for?

You will not be happy with any mods for long if you do not stick some $ into the transmission first This will be the most expensive mod next to the turbo. I have experience in this don't run the transmission to death it will just cost more to fix. if it is not slipping or has not been overheated go with a converter and valve body at minimum to start. As for electronics to simplify if you have a superchip programer go with a fueling box like TST or Blue chip. 4inch exhaust is a must also. Mach 4's may be a bit overkill stick in the 100 hp range sticks.

I went with the tst powermax 3 comp which has a remote. It has levels 0-9 to adjust it to your power needs at the time. Level 0 is stock each level after that steps up 20-25 hp with the comp version. With the regular pm3 each level steps up 10-15. Make sure to get the remote it is what makes the box adjustable.

PM me if you decide to buy one i got a buddy that can get them cheaper than i've seen anywhere else.
