I have a 2003 2500 4x4 HO, with the 48RE trans. My truck had 90,000 miles on it.

I just had the transmission rebuilt and modified with a triple disc TC, shift kit, billet shafts... . Basically the works. I had this done because, my truck id like new @ 90,000 miles, but the trans was cooked. Now that i have it back i am getting a P0700 code off the dash? I also had the dealership scan the truck and they pulled a P0122 code?

The truck drives great, however, I get some VERY strange shifts. Sometimes the truck does not want to shift and looses power for a few seconds while the RPM's keep going up..... Feels like slippage? If I take my foot off the accelerator pedal for a split second, it will shift, and then all is good. It doesn't do it all the time. My truck actually did this before the transmission was rebuilt as well. However, I assumed it was all transmission related. Now that I have had my transmission rebuilt and rechecked by the builder three times, he believes that the trans is fine, and that my problem with the shifts is deeper than the transmission itself. Possibly related to the codes? I know the P0700 is being thrown because of the higher line preasure in the VB, but what is this P0122 code? I can't find anything on it? The dealer said it is a code for the APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor), as well as the Speed Sensor in the trans? I would be willing to try the APPS, but it is $550, and I want to be sure that is the problem first. I have mixed feeling about the APPS being the problem. My idle is fine, it never jumps up and down, all I get is the erratic shifting, and the slippage feeling at full throttle.

I am so upset..... :{ I have spent a lot of money and I still have problems. I need to have this truck running properly ASAP. My family and I have several trips planned this spring and summer, and I can't afford to break down with children (One infant) with me.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!:{

Turbo Kidd,

The symptoms you're experiencing definitely sound like they could be caused by the APPS malfunctioning. That along with the P0122 DTC (APP SENSOR SIGNAL VOLTAGE) sure points in that direction.

The fact that your truck idles normally doesn't rule out the APPS being the problem. The APPS contains an electronic microswitch that tells the ECM when the engine is at idle, so if that part of the APPS is working fine, you'll have a nice idle but could still have problems above idle. The rest of the APPS is a reostat which tells the ECM what speed the driver wants the engine to be at. If this voltage signal isn't smooth and cut in and out, this can create all sort of driveability problems... including transmission shifting problems.

If you're handy with doing repairs yourself, you can buy a replacement APPS online much cheaper from a Mopar parts retailer and easily swap it out yourself... it's an easy plug-and-play piece of cake operation.

If your truck was built up to 1-1-03, then you want part number 53031576AC for about $248. 40.

If your truck was built after 1-1-03, then you want part number 53031575AF for about $306. 00.

If your truck was built prior to 1-1-03, then there's an even cheaper way to replace the APPS by replacing only the sensor part of the unit. Read this thread: Anatomy of an APPS for more details.

Best regards,

John L.
