I have a 1998. 5 2500 auto trans 2wd. My truck will stop pulling when you give it the throttle it's like the fuel just stops. I have a boost, egt, and trans temp gauge. Cruising down the road at (60) the egt runs at about 600 to 700 degrees. When you give it throttle the boost goes up to 10psi and the engine revs up but the egt does not move. But after about 30sec to 1. 5 mins the truck recovers. The fuel filter has been changed every other oil change it has just started doing this. I just bought the truck in oct. 04 it has 120,000 miles on it now. I'm 25 and this is my only ride to work. Someone please help me and if you could please tell me how to do the work I would greatly thank yall. Please don't tell me that it is an expensive fix. Thanks everyone,

Thomas

moat important gauge in these trucks is fuel pressure. best to get it checked using a mechanical gauge, lift pump could be going out and starving for fuel. if that is the problem better get it fixed before you ruin the vp44 thats expensive. also go to auto sone and get them to check for codes. hope this helps.

Excellent advise on the FP gauge! Get the codes read, it sounds like the flat spot of a failing VP. It could also be a problem with the APPS.

to check fuel pressure , go to a auto supply store ask them for a gauge 0 to 20 psi. this should be 1/8 thread. get a grease gun hose say 18 inches or longer. they will have a coupling to connect the hose to the gauge. remove the plug on top of the fuel filter , think its the one to the outside of the cover. screw the hose in ,start the engine you can tape the gauge up to the windshield. check at idle . a good pump will show 14or 15 psi. wot not less than 8 to 10 . if the pressure is erattic , bouncing all over the place . the pump is likely bad. before you totally condem it check the plug at the pump , unplug clean with electrical cleaner. if you have dialetic grease put some on the connector before you plug it in. if the pump is bad get one from cummins 3990105. cheaper than dealer. hope this helps. if you are a member of tdr. do search on lift pump it wiil keep you reading for months.
