Ok, so i'm about to look into changing my transmission fluid and I went outside to look under the truck to find out where the transmission cooler lines are and I noticed there is engine oil all over the transmission pan and bottom of the engine. I noticed the vent tube that comes out the bottom of the engine looks like where the oil came from. I just recently changed my oil and i'm very confident that i didn't overfill it. However, when i checked my oil it was indeed over the fill mark. The level is reading right in between the full mark and the top of the plastic part of the dipstick. I'm REALLY hoping that i'm not losing an injector. That's the only thing i can think of that would cause the oil level to rise. I've had no symptoms of problems. The truck runs great with plenty of power. What thoughts do u guys have?

Does the oil smell like diesel?

Sounds like a cracked injector body from what I have read... if the oil smells like diesel.

I didn't get a smell of diesel. I went ahead and drained out some oil and wrote down the level on the dipstick and then wiped down the undercarriage. I'll drive it for a couple hundred miles and then check the level and underneath to see if it happens again. I guess it's possible that I did over fill it last time I changed it. Maybe I just didn't let it sit long enough before I added to the full mark when I changed it a couple of weeks ago.

How many inches from the bottom of the stick? You mention full mark and top plastic. .

Sounds like an injector has bit the dust. If it is and you drive it you are doing damage to the motor.

If you can't figure out how to check and change oil, invite a friend over for a beer and show you how. Sometimes it is easier to demonstrate than read it over the intard web.

Figure out what happened before driving more no matter what.

There's no doubt that I had some engine oil under the undercarriage, but after closer inspection I think some of it may be transmission fluid. I cleaned the whole undercarriage with gunk and made an appt to take it in to the dealership next Wed. It's so weird that you can have zero problems for such a long time and then all of a sudden two things go wrong at once!

I ALWAYS use 11 quarts including filter. No problems in the 01 or 07. I get a free gallon every 30,000 miles with this method also.

I had the same problem. really bad. My crankcase was filled with diesel and it was all over everything and I was in Utah on a trip from Alaska to Yuma. The whole under carridge of the truck from the breather tube back was just saturated. They found an injector had "come apart" as was their phrase. It blew a bunch of fuel past some seals and filled up the crankcase and overflowed all over. I thought I had cratered the engine but after they replaced the injector under warrenty, flushed it out and with new oil and filter I was on my way. Sure scared the you know what out of me. I was 40miles or so south of Provo Utah at 4PM on a saturday afternoon. We had a heck of a time getting a tow for my dually and a 12' tandem cargo trailer back to Provo and to a dealer there. The tow operator was super as we finally got us back to Provo about 10pm. He dropped my Dually and I think it was a "Brent Brown?" dealership, and we unloaded all our stuff from the Truck into the cargo trailer. Then he took us to a nearby Motel within walking distance of the dealership and spoted the trailer in front of our Motel unit. We were really thankful for the super service that night.

a plunger in youre injector or a cracked tip(nozzle)washed youre cylinder and over filled the crank case and came out the blow-by tube.

Update-I have been checking my oil regularly and there doesn't appear to be a rise in the level nor does it have a diesel fuel odor to it, so I think I just didn't let it sit quite long enough last time I changed the oil and accidentally over-filled it while adding to the full mark. I really appreciate the replies, you guys are life savers! It's great to have such a wealth of information and access to people that are knowledgeable about the CTD here at TDR!
