While removing the main seal the seal retainer was gouged while inserting the screws. Any fix to this other than replacing the retainer - which of course involes the removal of the oil pan and so on and so forth.

although I wonder if I need to remove oil pan all the way to the point where I must lift engine to replace this piece... .

I thought I would be done tonight and running tomorrow:mad::mad:

Did the screws scar the entire length, or only part way?I almost messed up on mine when i changed seals and scarred the seal retainer some, but not all the way thru. The seal has worked fine. Randy

That is what I am debating, as that side does not spin, but it is gouged about 3/4 of the way back - at the end it is almost 1/4 of the circ. of the screw - may likley cause issues later - that is a lot of labor to not go a little further to replace it... . It Appears that I just have to remove the transmission adapter plate and oil pan.

Thanks Charles

Well I replaced the seal retainer - better safe than sorry - it really was not a big deal - took me no more than an hour and it was $45 from dealer.

Thanks
