Was on a long road trip this weekend and had the following happen to me about 6 times.
While cruising along at 80mph/2200rpm engine would suddenly drop power and accelorator would be "dead" for about 5 seconds each time. Tach appears to stay at engine RPM and engine does not sound like it slows. each time it occured it occured very near the 80mph/2200rpm point. When it occurs the pedal does nothing regardless of input and the power comes back just as quick as it goes away.
No smoke, no MIL/chimes, Codes PCU1693 and ECM0216 are set, but I think they are "left" over from last total lift pump failure a month ago.
When the cut out occurs FP , EGT and Boost are normal for my speed. Here were/are my initial thoughs.
1) Bad fuel/fuel gelling: It had gotten quite a bit colder as I was driving and this was my first though, except it started 2 hours into my trip and only occured in a narrow "window" .
2) Fear that my VP may be on the way out: started to notice a pulsating noise that I could not pinpoint but sounds like from the driver/front of engine. This noise starts at aprox 1850rpms and increases in freqency as engine speed increases/goes away when let up on accelorator.
3) Some kind of transmission problem: Noticed on return trip that when I aprubtly let up off of accelorator and the Torque convertor un-locked, and then back to accelorator and it re-locked, the feeling was very close to the feeling when the engine cut out.
4) Problem with Fuel box, which I will take off today and see it it has any effect tommorw.
On the return trip truck ran great, no problems, even started in 2 deg weather with out being plugged in over night. I had filled up the tank prior to leaving yesterday at my regular station and added Standyne like always.
Fueled up when I arrived in Traverse City and double dosed the Standyne, just in case it was water and/or gelling and to protect the VP.
Was not able to test the 80mph/2200rpm "trigger" on the way home though due to snow, ice and wind the ENTIRE way. Truck ran with out a single stumble though.
Any help/ideas would be appreciated, I'm starting to get tired of the " See I told you ,you didnt need a $35,000 truck" look from my wife (even though its not that often)when something goes wrong with my truck.
Thanks again and all ideas will be appreciated,
