My trans is currently apart and I am thinking of installing a shift kit while I'm inside and if it is a bad idea I need someone to talk me out of it. I only run the 30 horse Smarty setting and 285/75R17 tires and just want a firmer shift until I have enough money for the full deal. Any input is appreciated Thanks!

Definitely do the shift kit, billet band strut and actuator, and at least the billet front servo cover. Should be a standard upgrade on every 48RE behind a diesel.

Leave in the stock spring on the TV pressure to keep the shift points lower.

Don't drill for more pressure on the TC lockup. Its pretty good without and if you ever go to a triple you won't like the results.

I had it put it my truck in 2007(thanks DieselNut) and I like it. I asked the people at Goerand transmissions about parts and they recommended it, although I would have gotten a Goerand valve body if they suggested it. Jason at Dieselnut.com asked me if I wanted part of the valve body drilled for a slightly harder shift (don't remember any more details than this) and I said sure, and the 48re shifts great, especially when I step on it.
