can you put a plow prep package on a 3500 quad cab with ho engine and six speed. i can not find a dealer that knows. or is it only the auto because of the weight? what even comes in the package?

Don't quote me, but I think the heavier springs, etc. required for plowing are already included in the 3500's. If you want to plow with a 2500, you must "upgrade" by checking the option.

I am wondering how the plow mounts would affect the "crumple zones" in the frame.

On the dodge web site under there snow plow application chart. It said N/A for plowing with 3500 quad cab, drw ,HO, 6spd. So i guess the front axle can't handle the weight of the plow.

Whats The Deal?????

just had a dealer get back to me. 2500's and 3500's can only get a snow package (quad cabs ho's)with auto trans (47re?) the six speed ho is not an option.

he also said that ALL cummins ho's 2500's or 3500's get the same front springs whether is has a snow prep or not. the only thing included in the prep package if you order a ho diesel is a skid plate and extra piece of steel for front frame.

please correct me if this information is not true

Correct me if I am wrong. . I don't believe that anything over 8600# have crumple zones. My 02 1500 had them but I did not see them on my new 03 2500. Plus the tow hooks mounts are where they are usually are.

Didn't mean to get off the subject.

I am also interested in this thread. I also believe that you can install air bags to help with the load of an 8' plow. I had them on my F**d F150 to help with the weight. What is everyone installing for a plow?? Fisher, Western?? How much $$$$ too?

From what I have read you can only get the snowplow prep on a 3500 if it's a regular cab (which has dual wheels) or a quad cab short bed which has single rear wheels. The bottom line is no plow prep on any quad cab with a 8' bed. This is also holds true to the 2500 which means regular cab 8' and quad cab short beds only.

I looked into the snow plow pkg when I bought my CTD and was told it is not offered on any CTD due to engine weight. I had a Ford and it was the same with the PSD. Or at least thats what the dealers told me.

It don't have anything to do with the springs on the 3500 quad cab cummins. It has to do with what the front axle can handle. The extra 750-800 lbs for the plow puts the axle over its limit. Someone know the rating on the front axle? i think its less than the old dana.

Not sure about the 3500. But a 2500 with the Qcab, the dealer said that with the weight of the passenger's due to additional seating, 6 total and the weight of the plow overloads the front axle.

I am not aware of anybody that plows with 5 additional people in the truck but I suppose anything is possible.

I have a 2500 quad cab s/b with a factory plow package. You just can't have the plow prep on quad cab with an 8' bed. Also I think the new axle is rated the same as a Dana 60 at 5200lbs.

axle ratings...

3500 quad drw 4x4...

front : 5200 lbs.

i suggest using timbren load helpers. i plow using the above truck with a fisher ez-v 8. 5 ft. this plow is not light. when i raise the blade the truck drops maybe 1 inch, and when up i cannot feel it.

this truck rules.....
