I was trying to open up the 8mm allen head plug to get to the star wheel the other day and it is on there tight. I was afraid I was going to braking something. My question is, do I need to put more force on it because it is usually that tight, or do I need to remove the AFC housing all together to get in there?

Thanks

There on there tight, it could be slightly corroded depending if its ever been off. I tapped mine with a hammer a few times, then used the hammer to tap the wrench when it was in there and it finally came out. I put some anti seze on there when I reinstalled it. HTH, Jim

good pointer

mine is stripped out from previous owner, so i put a notch in mine and whack it with a hammer and screwdriver when i want it off. its brass so it will let go so just give it the juice ;)

don't smack it too hard or you may crack the aluminum afc housing using a impact, done that on thermostat housings on euro cars where you can't reach it with a chisel

I used an 8 mm allen head - 1/2" socket-drive - on an extension plugged into an 18" breaker bar. Took alot of pull then came loose with a snap. Bit of a surprise when it let go but was finger-turnable after that.

Now, if the rusted 9/16" bolt that's holding me up on the Jaguar bumper finisher would give in to all my persuading so far... only enough room to get a flat open end on it. Gotta love the Brits. Three days of drenching with PB Blaster and nada; not even with a BFH applied smartly to the wrench. Hmmm, maybe that 18" bar on a crow's foot? I'll try again today. Compared to this that AFC plug was a piece of cake. #@$%!
