I have one of those Diablo Hellion scanners I bought for my Ford Lightning race truck. I use it when I am at the track and contains lots of interesting data. Well, I noticed last night that the Dodge and Ford have the same serial port. So I plugged it in to see what kind of stuff I can find. It is a really neat tool to have if you have never tried one. It is just like a scan tool that the dealerships have but a lot smaller and simpler. They don't have as many features though.

Anyways, the things the Hellion can do is give you vehilce data like the VIN # and also a Calibration ID #. I wonder if this could be useful if I gave this to the dealer to see what the #'s stand for? Maybe they can recalibrate my engine off the #'s given?... hmmmm. It also gives a CVN # and I don't know what the heck that is.

On the control functions, it can give you engine codes if your vehicle throws one. You can erase them too. It also shows real time data which I love. You can cruise down the road and it gives instantaneous readings like water temp, intake absolute pressure, intake air temp, speedometer, tach, etc. . It is real neat.

It also has a manual command feature which you can put in a code and it will do whatever you tell it to do as long as you know the code. I guess the dealership might know more about this. But, on my Lightning I can tell it to lock into 3rd gear or whatever and also control my lockup on the torque converter. I don't have the codes for the Dodge though.

Anyways, I ran a search first to see what everyone else said about the Hellion and I couldn't find anything. Has anyone ever used one?

Later,

JD
