Just curious as to the current draw on a conventional 110vAC/60Hz domestic electricity supply hookup, when plugging in the block heater overnight in the winter months.

In Europe we have 220vAC/50Hz electricity supply, and the frequency variance won't make any difference, but I can get hold of a used, step-down transformer which will give me the 110v feed I need.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the peak current draw at switch-on and then what it settles down to, once connected? I just need to check that the duty cycle of this step-down transformer can live within these requirements comfortably.

Cheers!!

Perhaps you can get away to Feltham sometime soon Tim, there's a Hooters franchise on this island somewhere, so you'll feel right at home!:D

Now there's a thought...!!

John, might be easier and cheaper just to get a 220v heater, I'm sure they're available.

I will check with Cummins Northampton 50 miles away on Monday morning to see if a 220v Block heating element is available..... why didn't I think of that before?

Cummmins have representation all over Europe, so it's not unreasonable to expect a 220v variant... . I'll post the results back here on Monday.

If you are I will try to drop down there [2. 5 hrs away +/- traffic conditions] and hoist a beer with you and the Ram Runners.

The TDR jungle telegraph is working overtime :D Yes it's true!, I will be making a "cameo" appearance (without truck though :( ) at the RamRunners meeting. This will be my first trip back to the USA since I left with my truck and camper in May 2001. I'm just in the SFO area for 2 days only and then I'm in Seattle for the rest of that week before heading back to England.

Thanks also for the feedback Loren

600 watts at 110v will be about 5. 5 amps

800 watts at 110v will be about 7. 27 amps

figure the initial surge could go as high as 10 amps, maybe a little more.

lol

Come on down!!

Hey if you can make it too through 2. 5+ hours of traffic, you need a medal :D It would be great to put names to faces. See you at Cocoas!!

Wouldn't you know it.....?

Thw word on the street here in England from Cummins Europe is that there is only a 115VAC block heater (Cummins p/n 3928341) which is 750 watt & 120 volts only. I guess I'll have to make do with the step-down transformer . . . . . thanks guys . . . . .
