My truck had or has chrome plugs in it where the West Coast mirrors would have been, the original owner had the truck painted at some point in time, and I was wondering if these plugs should be chrome or painted? If chrome where can I find some to put back in? Mine are painted right now. thanks.

What is a "Plug where the West Coast Mirrors used to be"?

Your dealing with something that is not supposed to be there. I have a truck with the large towing mirrors and there is no "plug where the mirrors were supposed to be"

Sounds like they jimmy rigged something to fit the holes. I would patch the holes with either lead or putty, smooth out, and then repaint. No holes, no plugs.

The 89-90s came with the true west coast style big rig mirrors. I kinda like them for towing, but for everyday driving, I dunno- it's a toss up. I know I DONT like Mom's teeny tiny power mirrors.

Back to the question at hand. I take it the truck has at some time been converted to the power mirror style mirrors (MUCH smaller than the west coast or low mount towing mirrors GL referred to. ). If that's the case, I'd think it's a matter of personal preference. If you prefer chrome, get chrome; if painted looks good, go painted. I would dab some silicone sealant under the screws than tighten them down to cut down on leaks, though. I have seen the bolts he is talking about. Whether it is jimmied or not is open for debate. I still think the best route (if you can do/ get it done right is to fill the holes and repaint. But then you run into possible matching issues, so chrome or painted bolts/ caps may be the answer.

I really stirred up the mud, and didnt help much, did I?

West Coast are similar to these big ole camper special mirrors on JAlderman's truck, nice truck too ...

No, those are the low mount towing mirrors. I have them on my pickup as well. For West Coast, think old style KWs and Peterbilts- chrome frames and big 7x15 or so glass. This ebay rig has true west coast style mirrors, rough though they may be.

I hate to hijack the thread, just wanted to get people straight on the names applied to the mirrors. ;)

Well I bought the truck out of Oregon and I didn't know if it might have had the plugs in there as an option, trucks an LE and has all power, when I picked up the truck my brother seen the plugs and he called them "West Coast Mirrors", when I showed a friend of mine the truck, he also remarked the truck as having West Coast Mirrors, as it could have been an option, the guy I got it from said truck always had the power mirrors as they took the truck over from a close friend, who was the original owner, he also said the truck has been like that since his friend got it new, I was wondering if this is something they do out there maybe anticipating someone wanting those big 3 posted mirrors or something, H#$L I dunno, all I know is they are painted, I was just curious as to how they looked if the dealer actually installed these things, chromed or painted, but I've decided they are nice just the way they are. Trying to keep truck as original as possible.

i want a set of those mirrors if someone has a set!
