I am planning on advancing my timing since it has slipped. I only want to do this once since I am on a borrowed timing kit. I mostly use my pickup as a daily driver, but I haul a trailer almost every week. Any suggestions on how far to advance it with my setup? I probably won't stick with the hx35 for long and will probably go to sometihing bigger in the future. Also, if I go to over 16*, what plunger lift spec should I use since that is where the chart stops? TIA

With the 160 and less than 350hp I would set it at 15*, 400hp range 17*, 450hp range 19*. If you tow heavy frequently though I would leave it closer to 15*.

15. 0* - 6. 2mm

15. 5* - 6. 3mm

16. 0* - 6. 4mm

16. 5* - 6. 5mm

17. 0* - 6. 6mm

17. 5* - 6. 7mm

18. 0* - 6. 8mm

18. 5* - 6. 9mm

19. 0* - 7. 0mm

It's pretty easy, ever tenth of a mm is a half of a degree. 16 degrees seems like what most people with daily drivers run. More timing will lower EGT's, it will raise cylinder pressure though but since you already have studs and O-rings I would bump it to 17 or 18 degrees even with towing it shouldn't be a problem. Not sure on the specs of your cam but that will help too. Atleast 17 degrees in my opinion.
