... the new injectors are in, start it, chug chug splutter. Fuel leak. Crack hood; looks like I forgot to tighten #2.

Pull the intake;

PLUNK... ROLL...

Yep; bolt fell into intake.

Fingers can't reach it, magnet's not picking it up. It's not 5 inches either way. Did it really go in there? Maybe it fell down the side and it's stuck in the engine bay somewhere and not really in the intake?

Long story short... I err on the side of caution and tear it down. Fuel rail and all to get the intake cover off. The wife runs to Cummins Great Plains to get me an intake gasket.

There it is. That damn bolt made it all the way back to the end of the cover between 4 and 5. It's not round... weird. Thank god it didn't turn left and drop into a cyclinder.

And I do always plug the intake hole. The frk'in thing fell in when I was lifting the intake off. :eek:

Meanwhile; this thing looks like it's leaking a lot. Maybe more then #2. I was very meticulous about torque specs (except forgetting to tighten 2; it was only finger tight) ... so ... may have to go old school on it and just get the fuel feed lines and tubes damn tight. A dealer had this off before and I'm certain they followed no specs; the tubes and feed lines were WAY over torqued from the feel of them taking them off.

All the feed tubes had a nice firm snap in feeling before I finisheded torqueing the injectors; then I torqued the tubes. I pulled all the feed tube bolts off and re-torqued them. Couldn't finish the job until running to get a new gasket/washer for one of the banjo bolts on a line from the pump to the rail...

I'll know Sunday sometime if I'm fubar or not.
