Popups

'04 Travel Companion Question and Complaint

Private Message issues, actually 2 of them.

1. Whenever you come into the site you have to... . repeat have to scroll to the bottom of the of the page to see if you have any PM's, if you don't look you will never know you have them..... the "you have a PM" window never comes up unless you are already reading messages and someone PM's you at that time.

2. Then if you are reading the PM's and you don't back out of the PM window correctly or you write a long PM It will dump the "post since last login" If it's just me tell me so and I'll live with it or just quit looking or using PM's, makes it very non dependable.

Thanks, Jim

Jim, go to your user control panel and click edit options. Click yes for email notification and yes to allow popups to inform you of new PMs. One or the other usually works and will inform you of new messages.

The PM area is just the same as the rest of the forums, if you spend too long without opening a new page it will behave like you are logging in again, the only new posts shown will be the ones that came in since you first logged on.

To avoid this if I have a lot of PMs to respond to I save answering PMs till after I've gone though the other forums.

Email notifications should be fixed within the week - there is an announcement regarding that at the top of the forums. It's working for some people right now and not others due to an IP address issue that we discovered approximately a month ago.

PM notification should work when you first come to the site if you let the page load completely. If you come to the site and click on a forum before the page loads completely then the notification will not work. That is because it has to use Javascript to work and Javascript doesn't execute until everything is loaded.

There should be a 15 minute window that as long as you have activity within that 15 minutes then the since last login shouldn't change. Another option if it gets reset is that you can click on "view last days posts" in the middle of the screen at the top of the forum list and it will show you the last 24 hours worth of posts regardless of when you last logged in. As long as you were at the site within that 24 hours it will show you all of the new posts.

Steve, I was away this weekend and if I log in to check the posts it works just fine, could I have something setup wrong at home?

Jim

Do you have pop up killer software running on your pc? If so that will kill the pop up notices from here as well. It also uses Javascript to do the popups so you could have javascript disabled on your home pc.
