I need a new pocket knife and was wondering what the folks out there use. I need something with both smooth and serrated edges, not too skinny of a blade and no longer than 4 " or so when folded. I carried a Spyderco for years and been looking a BenchMade but figured I would ask here to see. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Glenn

Pocket clip knifes.....

My wife gave me a Benchmade CQC-9 (Emerson design) teflon for x mas a few years back, carried it every day and used it on everything.

It was starting to get a bit dull and was showing some wear, so I got a CKRT Hammond design. It's part serrated, just like the benchmade.

I love this knife, it's just as smooth as the $100. 00+ Benchmade, and it was only $12. 00!!!

What I really liked was I wasnt afraid of losing it.

BTW, I have a Kershaw (Ken Onion)too. I havent taken it out of the box much, but it seems well built.

I carry a Kershaw Ken Onion Blackout everyday,

except on airplanes of course. Great knife and acts like a switchblade when you touch the foldout pin with your thumb. Mine is a smooth blade but they make a dual edge model.

$75 a year and a half ago at Bass Pro Shops (I think they are cheaper now. )

I am partial to SOG knives. I have always had good results with them. They are tough, very sharp, and reasonably priced. I have their Seal 2000 knife, and that thing is unstoppable.

If you want the ultimate knife, try Busse Combat-- pricey but there are none tougher or sharper.

I carry a benchmade. I'm a bit of a knife freak and have about 20 of them. All brands, spyderco, sog, benchmade, kershaw, even an old henry. I got tired of serrated edges and just carry a straight edge benchmade now. That new one with the omega locking mechanism, strong as hell man. Good knife. high carbon steel holds edges better, but they get more brittle the harder they are. I'm a catalog shopper but i've used tons of knives, I suggest heading to the sports store or gun show and trying some out.

I've got the Kershaw too. I have had it over a year and carry it everywhere. When I first got it the thing was wicked sharp, but has dulled just a little over time. I like it and think it's a great little knife.

Good luck,

Mike

I have 3 Leatherman tools (not affiliated) (the Supertool, Juice (the yellow one) and a Squirt (w/pliers)). I love them all. I also have the Kershaw 1600. They are all rather impressive. I'd suggest you stop by EMS or someplace and actually handle various tools before buying one.

Yeah, I did the gun show thing this Sunday and didn't end up buying one, seen a lot that I like but didn't buy for whatever reason. I'lll keep shopping, thanks to all who replied so far.

Benchmade!

I have three benchmades. One is a auto and the other two are axis locks. I think that the axis lock is the best locking mechanism on the market! If you are looking for a great knife check them out. The only problem that I have had with the benchmade knives is that they are so hard I have trouble sharpening them. See new post!

Dan

yeah thats its, the axis lock. I said omega cause it has this little springy thing that looks like that greek letter. Hey check this site out, they have tons of knives. All qualities and brands.

The best.

I've carried a Kershaw,Ken Onion Model 1550 black-out for over a year.

I lost it last Oct. while plowing green-fields. It was like I had lost my best friend. When you think you need to cut something your Ken Onion blade is open and ready in less than 2 seconds. I went 3 months without my Ken Onion.

It almost killed me to have to reach in my pocket, take my left hand, open the blade. By that time I had forgotten what I was going to cut with my Old Timer. I bought 2 Ken Onion's last December. I will never be without my Ken Onion again.

I like the Benchmade knives, saw a nice looking Cold Steel tanto folder with LONG blade the other day... was sorely tempted to buy it.

I have a bunch of knives, really like the AFCK and tanto style blades but my daily carry knife is a Case Trapper with damascus blades, have had it a long time and carried it all over the world with never a problem until the post 9/11 hysteria. Always liked the way the trapper design feels in the hand. Have to oil it every so often to prevent corrosion, but boy will it hold an edge.

Nobodys a Buck fan? I've this knife for 4-5 years, it's very lite, belt-clip and thumb tang are for either righthand or southpaws, very easy to switch, very sharp and holds a great edge. I have plenty of other knives, Kershaw, Boker, Bucks, but this one is my favorite pocket knife. I'm not sure what the blade is made from, some sort of very lite SS, or who knows, but it refuses to corode.

I've only broken one knife in my life, and it was a buck. I was splitting the pelvis of a cow elk and hitting the knife with a rock to hammer it. the knife shattered, split into 4 pieces. Luckily i carried two spares and got though the process ok. I vowed then on to never own a buck.

I own one of these knives from spyderco. If you want a knife that will just scare the hell out of someone, this is it! here's a pic! Its not exactly practical for... well anything really.

I broke a Gerber once chipping a block of ice. Gerber was going to replace it for shipping, but I never got around to it.

I have a collection of many bucks, uncle Henrys and others, but there all to fat. Plus I don't want to loose any, they all came as gifts over the years.

for carrying I picked up this one at Wally World, looks pretty much like that buck somebody showed earler in that picture, only the pocket clip is plastic, and it has a lanyard that clips into the knife. It works, its thin enough to carry in my pocket, and its cheep enough if I loose it, I woulnt go miss it. I think it was around $20. 00

pcoket knives

I have quite a few Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) knives- they are of good quality and the price is not bad - much less than a Benchmade - which are alos nice knives but very spendy. .

After all kinds of uses, I am partial to Kershaw Blades.

I learned how to steer a bull calf with a Kershaw blade, and since then I have been partial to them. Mine is ½ smooth, and ½ serrated. Just my $. 02 worth.
