Is anyone else into collecting old pocket watches or have any for sale, I am just getting into the collection on old american made elgin, waltham, and other brand pocket watches. I just got my first watch monday, a 1903 Elgin 18 size, 7 jewel movement. I love it, and hope to soon aquire more. I love to hear the watch tick as it passes the time something you just can't seem to find with any quality any more if at all. No batteries needed, just a quick wind and it's back off to the races.

I have an old Elgin that my Uncle owned. He died in 1922 and his wife, my aunt, saved his watch all those years. She never re-married either. Right before she died in 1998 she gave it to me. It doesn't run, but probably only needs a good cleaning.

I also have several other wind-up clocks around my place, some of which I've built the case for. I like the sounds of clocks ticking. It's soothing to me.

Thanks Kissfan, for the Elgin site. I got out my Uncle's watch, removed the screw-on back and got the serial number off of it. And I found a lot of info on it. I contacted a watch repairman listed on the site for an estimate to clean my Uncle's Elgin--$245!!! Holy cow! Does anyone know of a less expensive watch repair place?
