Just installed the pods yesterday. The wow factor was not what i anticipated. To begin with my starwheel was turned a turn or to down fuel screw was turned 1. 5 turnes in and cone was set at fattest part. the truck was a completly different truck it ran great. I know i should have installed guages but i bought the truck when my wife was 9 months pregnant so money was tight a the time. Last week i order guages, turbo housing, and PODS. installing them wasnt to bad and i set the valves. i dont know what #'s were before but 34psi and 1100 on the pyro isnt to hard. Thats not bad but seat of the pants inst as large as before. smoke is a cloud at first but clears to a haze at full throttle. I have no idea were the timing is at and wonder if i should take it to a pump shop to have it checked and maybe slightly andvanced. Should i also throw in a 3200gsk while at it. the truck does run good though, seems smoother and quieter. Maybe my butt dyno is off. did i mention a stock auto supposadly rebuilt. is this normal or am i wanting too much.

You need to do some more work. I too have a stock auto that's in good working order and my truck feels like an alcohol funny car. You need to get some more work done to take advantage of the POD's. You will have quite a smile! I guarantee it.

For starters. I wasn't overly impressed just putting the POD's in either.

You need to perform some simple tasks that will cause you to wonder if it's the same engine,,,,,

or did somebody swap it for something found at the drag strip.

Check that timing and get it advanced. The POD's will retard the timing because of the cracking PSI.

I'd love to help more!

Keep in touch.

I am happy with my pod's, but I have to get a bigger housing (I am running a 12), and need to check timing. I am thinking of running them only in the summer because they seem to load up a bit when cold, or from idling. I am planning on installing the 16 housing or the PDR Hx-35 turbo, and being a lot happier. Coolant temp seems to be an important factor too. If my truck has not warmed up yet, I will stay out of it anyway, but until it is warm, there is more of a blueish haze off idle, but once warm, if you stand on it, the truck goes great, and you get a pretty nice smoke show, not as good as an in-line fuel system, but oh well

The blueish smoke at idle when cold is the norm.

They will seem to load up when idleing for extended time. And, it's the smart owner/operator who drives easy till she is warmed up.

Sounds like good boost #'s for going thru an intercooler. EGT 1100 is that pre or post turbo? If its post waahoooo you're running plenty hot. If pre-then you need timing advanced and more fuel.

One thing I have noticed with my POD's is I dont have to have my foot mashed to the floor to get as much accelation -> change in velocity over a period of time<- as before. Its much more driveable. ? for ya DP and JL should us non-ic guys ever advance our timing since were already there? Bill

i will check timing. the cummins roars with some throttle which leads me to believe the trans is the weak spot. rpm's climb fast so the smoke dissipates fast. timing is something i dont want to tackle so would any pump shop be of help?Or can anyone recommend one near chicago. By the way the TDR has been my most valuable tool . Thanks guys

bgilbert-

From what I've read on here, it probably wouldnt hurt to go to 1. 5-1. 6mm or even a little higher, as the higher pop pressure of the PODs effectively retard the timing. But, I'd only do it if you are getting the bluish smoke, have some lag, or other lackluster performance issues. (Poor MPGs with your foot to the floor dont count. :D) The nonIC engines are timed a little over IC (1. 40mm vs 1. 25mm), but still a hair lower than "ideal" IMO. BTW- going from 1. 4mm to 1. 6mm was about 1/32" on my pickup, if that. 1/8" got me around 2. 05mm:--). Your results may vary.

Red,

You need more than mild pump tweaks to utilize (the word of the day guys) the high flow POD injector. When you reach the point of "plenty-0-fuel":D you'll need to make some turbo, exhaust pipe, manifold, cyl. head changes... ... ... .

'cause she'll be running TOO hot:eek:

We'll talk later... ... ... ... ... ... .

BTW..... you'r already up to your ankles in this, may as well jump on in head first. ;)

Scott

Bill,

I'm going to leave my timing alone for now... .

Yea, perhaps I could advance it a scoosh... . but the truck seems happy... . no blue smoke at idle except when it's single digit cold, truck idles well, even for extended times so there's no "load up" issue, and it seems to respond well to throttle advances.

EGT is not a problem... but I haven't hauled anything heavy since I installed the Bully Dogs and turned up the fuel... .

Basically, you've taken care of fuel delivery, but now you need to get more air and beef up the transmission so you can make more power. DTT is a good place to look into for transmission mods, but you're kinda far. More air will come from a new intake, porting, a 4" exhaust, bigger turbo etc.

Oh, and did I mention that I have a set of EDM's that are way bigger than POD's comming? Stay tuned... . :D

Yeah, you only remind us daily :rolleyes: The suspense is killing me!!! Let me know how they turn out ASAP, or as soon as you get 'em in. I want to know about smoke, EGTs, MPGs, KGBs, etc. Ok, maybe not the KGB, but you get my drift.

I'm thinking about (um, make that PLANNING on) a 2nd gen cooler, updated/ ported head, and as I'll need a set of 7mm injectors, I may as well go for some big 'uns this time round; though I may try a set of 6-8 holers- they would have been really good in an IC truck, I think. That, and I want as many holes as I can get, esp @5000ft. Then I'll need to address airflow again... ... Maybe something for the PDR35 to drive, like a HT3B or... ... . Gawd, does it ever end? :D

NO.......

..... it never ends. Good thing Lewis and Clark didn't have that attitude:rolleyes:

Red,

You will need more fuel delivery. Most are public knowledge and these methods are simple and straight forward. Some require a bit further knowledge and skill. Read that $$$. With your POD's installed you have the ability to use the increased flow. In fact you can get enough flow from them to get you and your engine in to some pretty deep... ... ah, water.

To protect the pioneers (and the criminally insane) please PM me and we can talk increased flow from the pump, your next step.

I don't think I could use any bigger injectors than the 185's I have now. With the mods I have and a modified fuel cone, I can really put out a LARGE black cloud if I want to. Still need to do some porting on the 3 piece manifold and getting it put on and want a 4" exhaust but feel the 185's will be staying in the truck. EGT's are not a real issue even when towing, still ok with the boost I have without requiring O rings on the head.

Stan,

Smart. A Hollywood actor one time told me that "A man's got to know his limitations". Yah, he told me that. It's just that it takes some of us longer before we realize that.

Happy motoring.....

Scott

Hey, you shouldn't put off doing a bit of timing adjustment. It is safe and easy if you take your time, hang your tongue out just right and, look at it with one good eye... . :D:D:D

Timing is important on these babies... . " GET IT ON".....

Pastor B...

Dnt let them hit ya for more than two hours, and ask specifically how they find #1 TDC. If they say the timing pin, or beat around the bush, find another shop. It is a known fact the timing pin on the 1st Gens are not always accurate, though you get lucky sometimes. If they cant find true TDC, you may as well flush your money down the can.

Picture this will ya.........

A group of grease monkeys/Nazi Missourians get loose from their Fri. night BINGO game and decide to adjust pump timing on Daniels truck:eek: :D :D :{ #@$%! #@$%! ... ... ... ... ... . :-laf :-laf
