I received this company email yesterday from Bennett Morgan, President and COO of Polaris Industries:

"Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts

As you are well aware the relief effort for the victims of Hurricane Katrina is going to be a long uphill battle. The devastation is wide spread and the call for basic human needs such as water, food and shelter is enormous. In all likelihood it will be the greatest natural disaster in our nation’s history.

As always Polaris intends to help where we can. We have had many inquiries from Polaris employees about how people can help. To date, we have responded by sending 2 truckloads of ATVs & Rangers to help the cause. These products are being sent to our dealers who are deploying them through a number of different agencies to help in the recovery efforts. We will continue to support the clean up and recovery efforts in the coming months.

We have also set up a process with the American Red Cross to handle contributions from Polaris and Polaris employees. For every dollar contributed by one of our employees, we will match 50% that will be contributed in the form of an ATV or a Ranger. If you wish to contribute to the relief effort, please make your check payable to the American Red Cross – National Disaster Relief Fund, and send the check to Melinda Walter via inter office mail in Human Resources. We realize many of our employees have already contributed in some manner to this cause. If you have already made a contribution, you can provide a copy of your donation to Melinda Walter and Polaris will match 50% also.

Polaris employees have always been quick to respond and very generous in these situations in the past. Thank you for your participation.

Just thought I'd show what we're trying to do to help in this situation. Any of you have employers setting up similar deals?

Dan -- The company I work for, LexisNexis is matching employee contributions up to $50,000. Not as much I would have hoped but it's something. They might add more in the future too.

My employer (Cummins Power Systems) is matching all employee donations 100% and SO IS the Cummins Engine Co. Every dollar we donate as employees, $3 get's sent to red cross!
