Help, I can't Decide... .

I am looking at a 2003 Kawasaki 650 Prairie 4x4

It is slightly used, but had a snow plow, and a winch, and a clutch kit, and heated handlebars, and oversize, offset wheels with custom aluminum rims. The guy has approx 10K into it, but I can buy it for 6,200. 00 Supposedly, dealer would only give him 5500 to buy it back.

I have rode Polaris quads only before. I like their IRS setup a liitle better than the live axle by Kawasaki.

The Polaris I have driven is only a 400.

Do Polaris 500-700 models run really strong? and can they be hopped up?

The thing is this Kawasaki F**kin flys. I feel as if I am driving a 1/4 mile drag car. it pulls the front wheels off the ground when you hammer it. Like a car with a 5000 stall converter. The polaris 400 seems dead in a comparison run.

Has anyone any experience on either unit here?

I am a KawBoy (ALL My bikes Race and all) And All the work vehicles (Club Car , John Deere Gator) are Kaws and I NEVER have had a motor failure ... . EVER! Plus Kaw parts are Super easy to get your mitts on as well.

I used to be a motorcycle/atv/snowmobile mechanic at a dealership that sold all brands and I would not own a Polaris if you gave it to me especially a 600 or 700 twin ( lots of cooling system problems ). If I were looking for a atv I would jump at the chance to buy a 650/700 Prarie. and if you want the 650 engine with independent rear suspension buy a Arctic Cat.

I used to be a test driver at Arctic Cat back in the late 90's and they are very tough but heavy units and can go as far as rider ability allows. I have had the chance to test a few Polaris atvs and they are also heavy but I always wondered if they would get me back home. I don't mean to start a brand war and I am not trying to rag on the Polarises as I do know a couple of people who have had little problems with them I am just giving my . 02

Best regards,

Kurt.

I've been a Yamaha fan for a long time. I have a 99 Wolverine that I have ridden for years with reckless disreguard for my own safety. The ATV has never broken and has never needed to go in for service. That being said, if I were to buy a new ATV today, it would be the Kawasaki Prairie 700. That is one bad MoFo. Last time I was out riding and one of the local spots, a guy was riding a 650 with some aftermarket parts. Sounded like a motorcycle.

Yeah, it sounded pretty mean. Deep and throaty. I don't mean it sounded exactly like a motorcycle, but it sounded much better than stock.
