I was going to get a drop in shed... . 14 x 36... . all cedar siding, hip roof... $8000

Looking further I can double that size and have a concrete floor for possibly $12000 if I build it myself.

Any recommendations on to which way to go?

I currently have an estimate on a 28 x 40 x 12 post building complete kit for less than $10,000. How much do you think a concrete pad would cost me... done -vs- diy?

I like a pole building because the floor and walls can float separately during the winter freeze cycle.

With a pole building you can put it up and do the floor later - or even leave half the floor dirt if you want.

You would have about 14 cubic yards of concrete if you do it 4" thick at a cost of about $100 a yard = $1,400 plus rebar or mesh at a cost of about $500 plus form work and excavation and add some more mud and steel for "footings" if needed. A couple bills for road base and the cost of the compactor rental. If you can find someone who is a good finisher, hire him for that and do the rest your self. You'll save a ton of cash.
