I read all the posts, and there was some great ones. But there were a lot of opinions, so I thought it would be interesting to see how people would vote.

I would have liked to vote for both the basic 1911 and the sig 220 with only one vote i went with the basic 1911

Sig P220 or Glock 21... . it's a toss up, but I *had* to pick the Sig. It's like cocaine. :-laf

Unless absolutely necessary, I will never trust my life to a 1911 anything... even a Delta Elite. JMHO

I went the opposite way than kenny. I like the 1911 the best, but if I had only one quick shot, I'd take take my 220. It really is a toss up between the two.

"Basic 1911" covers a lot of manufacturers. However, I had to go with it. I have a couple of other pieces that are more "modern" but when I want to feel safe and secure, I grab the old Colt 1911. You gotta go with what feels right.

Depends on the shooter!

There are many good reliable 45s out there. Just about any of those listed in the survey should do fine for SELF DEFENSE if the shooter is properly trained.

My opinion!

Happy with my XD .45

Take a look at the Springfield Torture Test!!! Sold Me!

SPRINGFIELD XD TORTURE TEST!!!

I bought an XD . 45 last year. I have never been more satisfied. I actually went into the gun store looking to buy a Glock... I handled one of these XD's just out of curiousity... kept lookin at all the model Glocks... but kept coming back to the XD. The rest is history and I am very happy with this weapon. I was impressed with the round in chamber indicator and the striker pin indicator and the lack of any safety to have to deal with. Trigger safety and grip safety combination are awesome. So. . in total darkness I can know that my weapon has a round in chamber, cocked and ready to fire. I also liked having two holsters, two stainless steel mags and a nice case with a cleaning tool. Also impressive was the ease of breakdown. The standard factory sites are above par. Totally accurate, smooth, and well balanced. It has never jammed on me yet. Makes a rookie like me look really good at the range. I have a CCW now and I feel VERY safe when I am carrying 13 rounds of . 45 cal in this weapon. :-laf

I personaly Like my Ruger 345 I've put atleast 1000 rds though it and its been very acrurate even to those who have never fired it before they were able to pick it up and fire some nice grouping

Tough call..... many fine weapons listed there... . but I'd have to go with the 1911. No complaints with just about any ammo, while some upper end 1911s have issues feeding at times with certain ammo. While the overall accuracy will not be as good as the upper 1911s, or the Sig, the overall function and reliability is legendary. Just ask any WWI(the one surviving) veteran, or any WWII vet..... reliability in all conditions is a must. Accuracy is not as good, but when confronted with a bad situation, "minute of torso" accuracy is more critical than MOA... ...
